How can you make a difference? 

Purpose of Activity/Assignment:
The consultant will provide technical and strategic support to enhance meaningful youth engagement across UNICEF Lesotho programmes. This includes strengthening coordination among sectors, integrating youth participation into programme plans, and leveraging digital platforms for advocacy and behaviour change.
 
Scope of Work:
 
A. Programme Coordination and Oversight
•Facilitate alignment of youth engagement activities with HIV prevention, CAP, and SBC strategies.
•Support regular review meetings with UNICEF for focal points, implementing partners and stakeholders.
•Ensure integration of youth voices into programme design and monitoring.
 
B. Digital Engagement and Advocacy
•Strengthen management and outreach of youth-focused platforms (U-Report, YOMA, ADDA, school health).
•Develop youth-friendly content (polls, infographics, videos) to promote participation and behaviour change.
•Monitor engagement analytics and recommend improvements.
 
C. Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships
•Map and engage key stakeholders, including government, CSOs, and private sector.
•Support the establishment of a National Youth Engagement Steering Committee.
•Facilitate capacity-building sessions on youth engagement and digital participation.
 
D. Monitoring, Reporting, and Knowledge Management
•Develop and implement monitoring tools for youth engagement activities.
•Conduct joint field monitoring visits and document findings.
•Produce monthly progress reports and a final comprehensive report with strategic recommendations.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree

Education: Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Communications, Education, International Development, or related field

Disciplines: Social behaviour, Communications, Public Health

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in programme implementation, coordination, advocacy, and youth engagement.
  • Proven experience working with youth networks, NGOs, or digital engagement platforms.
  • Familiarity with SRHR/HIV, adolescent development, and life skills programming.

Skills

  • Excellent communication and working with people.Previous working experience with UNICEF is as asset.
  • Strong coordination and partnership management skills.
  • Ability to design and implement digital communication strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking with ability to link youth engagement to broader programme outcomes

Language Requirements: Fluency in English and Sesotho required; knowledge of another UN language is an asset.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.

Interested candidates should indicate their ability, availability, and rate (daily/monthly) expressed in USD to undertake the terms of reference. Please indicate an all-inclusive fee (including lump sum travel and subsistence costs, as applicable) to undertake the tasks in the Terms of reference.
