How can you make a difference? 

UNICEF in Vientiane, Lao PDR is looking for a National Consultant to support nutrition information system in Lao PDR. The duration of this assignment is 11 months, starting as soon as possible and the consultant shall be home based and work closely with the government’s office to support Ministries of Health and Finance.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

The consultant shall be home based and work closely with the government’s office to support Ministries of Health and Finance.  She/ he shall work closely with Nutrition section teams and other sectoral departments to ensure smooth coordination for reporting on nutrition data. More specifically, in consultation with the UNICEF Nutrition Team, the consultant shall:

  • Support MOH’s DPF and CN to strengthen program monitoring for key nutrition interventions including IMAM, IYCF, micronutrient supplementation, and updating nutrition dashboard and scorecard using routine data system (DHIS2).
  • Provide support to DHHP/ MOH to strengthen BMS data from monitoring and supervision in health facilities. This includes the deployment of AI tools and linking the findings to NIPN website, as well as follow up and updating the system when the violations are acted upon.
  • Provide support to FDD/MOH to generate and analyze monitoring and supervision data related to BMS monitoring in retailers and to salt iodization.
  • Build capacities on nutrition data analysis, visualization and dissemination of relevant Government institutes and ministries.
  • Support Government or partners with undertaking nutrition related surveys and studies at national and sub national levels
  • Support the GoL to maintain and strengthen NIPN website to reflect necessary and development needs, develop relevant AI tools in supporting users access to required nutrition data and visualization and provide training at central and the selected provinces.
  • Supports Government   and coordinates with relevant units to plan and report programme activities under HACT framework.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Master level in Data science, Statistics, Public health, nutrition, international development or other clearly related disciplines

Work Experience:

  • At least 5 years of professional work experience in related areas
  • Proven knowledge of and experience in supporting countries develop and/or utilize information management systems
  • Proven knowledge of and experience in working with nutrition information systems including DHIS2 
  • Experience in development websites, online data collection platforms, and AI 

Skills:

  • Knowledge of nutrition data management, data acquisition, data visualization, web management, and the use of AI tools.
  • Good analytical and report writing skills 
  • Understanding in Harmonized Approach to Cash  Transfers (HACTs)  
  • Excellent communication skills,

Language Requirements:

  • fluency in English is required- both in oral and written communication.
