The Digital Communication Consultant will lead UNICEF DRC Country Office efforts to deliver effective and strategic digital outreach, with the objective of promoting awareness, understanding, support and respect for children’s rights.

How can you make a difference? 

Under the supervision of the Chief of Communication, the Digital Communication Consultant will be responsible for the strategic and creative management of UNICEF’s digital presence in the country. This includes leading the development and dissemination of engaging content for social media platforms, the UNICEF website, and internal communication channels, as required. The incumbent will ensure the daily management of UNICEF’s social media accounts, including content planning, publishing, community engagement, and performance monitoring. They will also lead on the planning and implementation of digital content strategies for key global and national moments, campaigns, and programmatic milestones, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's objectives and brand identity. In collaboration with the wider Communication team, the Digital Communication Consultant will contribute to the implementation of the donor visibility and recognition strategy through high-impact digital storytelling and targeted outreach. The incumbent will also contribute to a smooth transition process with the incoming International UN Volunteer who will take over this function.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • A master’s degree in international relations, development studies, journalism, political science; or other fields related to this position
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in communication, digital engagement, social media, marketing.
  • Excellent writing and editing, including a strong understanding of online storytelling and news, as well as a solid fact-checking and copy-editing background.

  • Knowledge of international development, humanitarian issues and children’s rights.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset. 
  • Fluency in French and English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset. 

Proposal of technical and financial offers

Candidates are invited to produce a comprehensive technical and financial offer indicating total remuneration (fees, mission expenses, etc.). It must include details of the period of validity and the method of payment, which will be made in accordance with UNICEF-approved procedures (see model attached in the ToR).

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and advance to the next stage of the selection process. 

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
