Job Description:

The Research Metrics and Impact Project Assistant provides research support to the UF George A. Smathers Libraries’ Research Metrics and Impact team. We are currently seeking a candidate to assist with the qualitative portion of an internally funded research project. The individual selected for this role will conduct interviews and focus groups with UF faculty to understand their research publishing goals. They will analyze the results and prepare reports and publications based on the results. Additional responsibilities include developing surveys and coordinating with UF faculty.

Study overview: The study uses UF research publications from IFAS faculty and outputs as a basis for a cited references analysis, starting with citing works and working backwards to identify publishing models used and explore any correlation between publishing models (i.e. open access vs. subscriptions) and citation patterns. The research design uses both quantitative and qualitative methods to assess achievement of dissemination goals. In the first part of the study, quantitative citation data from databases was collected, extracted, cleaned, and is currently being analyzed. The next phase will add qualitative data from author surveys and focus groups to enrich the understanding of scholars’ publishing decisions as a function of intended audience, funding agency expectations, and other factors.

Job Duties

The research impact and metrics project assistant will perform the following:

  • Create reports of data analysis
  • Create surveys
  • Create interview questions
  • Conduct focus groups
  • Communicate with UF faculty
  • Attend weekly team meetings
  • Contribute to publications and presentations

 

WORK SCHEDULE

Up to 20 hours per week for a limited appointment through September 30, 2026. Availability to work at least some of these hours between M-F 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.

START DATE: This position begins immediately upon candidate selection and acceptance.

LOCATION: Position will work in the Marston Science Library, UF campus, in Gainesville, FL.  

Expected Salary:

$19/hour

Minimum Requirements:
  • Enrolled in a graduate degree program
  • Prior experience in the use of quantitative or qualitative research methods
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis software
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal & written communications skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team, both in-person and virtually
  • Detail oriented
  • Interest in working for libraries or related organizations that support academic research
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficient in statistical analysis
  • Understanding of scholarly publishing
  • Experience with qualitative analysis tools (e.g. MaxQDA)
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI)
  • Experience with data platforms (e.g. Snowflake)
