Job Description: |
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP) and the Masters of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) Program invites applications for a specialized, part-time faculty position as a Planner in Residence. This position is .50FTE (20 hours per week) and would tentatively start on July 1, 2025, or as soon thereafter as possible. This position is part physical presence on campus and part remote and will be overseen by the MURP Online Program Director in coordination with the URP Director of Academic Programs.
The Planner in Residence position serves a critical practice-based role for the MURP program and URP Department. This planning faculty is expected to teach practice-based graduate level courses including URP6061: Planning Administration and Ethics, and URP6941: Urban Planning Professional Development. The Planner in Residence also participates in various departmental committees and service activities, serves as a professional advisor to students, and facilitates relationships with external organizations such as the American Planning Association (APA).
A successful candidate will be an adaptable generalist with a diversity of planning experience and knowledge, and someone who is able to infuse their planning practice experience into teaching and student engagement. Candidates will view this role as an opportunity to bridge academia and practice to further advance both planning communities. Candidates should showcase their experience in project design and management, community engagement and relationship building, team building, education and outreach, and tangible results of planning projects. The Planner in Residence will advance the department as a leader in planning education in both the state and the country and will therefore be expected to work with faculty within and outside of the department and university.
Essential Functions of this posiition:
- Teaching-this includes teaching Planning Administration and Ethics during spring semesters and Colloquium during fall semesters, both of which have online and on campus students and require engagement for each. Other teaching duties may include preparing course syllabi, content, assignments, design, and other materials; actively engaging with students to teach to, and assess, course learning outcomes; provide office hours proportionate to credit hours; and support student learning through resource sharing and collaboration.
- MURP Programming- this position will oversee the MURP Mentorship Program, which pairs planning students with professional mentors; and the MURP Fellowship Program which provides significant support to incoming MURP students based on merit.
- MURP Recruitment-This position will assist the department with both online and on campus student recruitment.
- External Engagement and Partnership Development- This position will be responsible for nuturing current external partnerships as well as building new relationships with external agencies, organizations and institutions.
- Other Duties As Assigned-other duties deemed important for this roles based on performance and ability as well as achievement of other position related tasks.

Expected Salary: |
$30,000-$40,000, commensurate with education and experience.

Required Qualifications: |
- Master's Degree in Urban Planning or other related field
- Minimum of 3 years of professional planning experience
- Ability to teach graduate-level courses in professionalism and ethics
- Ability to be physically present on campus in Gainesville in a part-time capacity

Preferred: |
- AICP Certification
- 5 or more years of professional planning practise, including project managements
- teaching experience
- knowlege of the planning environment in Florida, other states, and nationally
