Job Description:

The Department of Physics at University of Florida invites applications for an Assistant Scientist position in the field of theoretical and computational quantum materials. We are seeking a motivated and creative researcher with expertise in strongly correlated electron systems and quantum magnetism.

Areas of particular interest include:

  • Emergent phenomena in strongly correlated systems
  • Quantum magnetism, spin liquids, and topological phases
  • Methodological expertise in advanced numerical techniques such as: Density Matrix Renormalization Group, Quantum Monte Carlo, and Exact Diagonalization etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in theoretical quantum materials.
  • Develop and apply a combination of analytical and state-of-the-art numerical methods to address fundamental problems in condensed matter physics.
  • Publish research in leading peer-reviewed journals and present findings at major conferences.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations with experimental and theoretical groups.

Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
  • Strong background in theoretical condensed matter physics, particularly in correlated electron systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in numerical many-body methods.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming (e.g., Python, C++, Julia, Fortran) and familiarity with parallel computing.
  • Strong record of publications and scientific presentations.
Preferred:
  • Experience with machine learning techniques applied to quantum many-body systems.
  • Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) environments and large-scale simulations.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary and collaborative research across theory and experiment.
