Job Description:

The Department of Animal Sciences' Beef Teaching Unit is seeking a Farm Supervisor. This position requires hands-on experience managing and supervising staff and the operation of working beef cattle facilities.  Farm supervisor responsibilities include but are not limited to:  supervision of employees, animal handling, breeding management, animal processing, diet formulation, forage production, planning work schedules, accounting, education, and coordination of research projects with the department of Animal Sciences.  The successful candidate will be involved with all aspects of working livestock operations and will be required to supervise employees, including student employees.  Position will involve driving vehicles and operating farm equipment.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Supervise the daily production activities relative to the Standard Operating Procedures for the unit.  This includes research, teaching, and extension objectives.  The incumbent will be expected to make decisions on breeding, culling, herd health, nutrition, pasture management, and maintenance of facilities.

- Responsible for the purchase of all feed and herd health supplies and to monitor the maintenance program for farm facilities, machinery, and equipment. Will utilize a state vehicle for these daily duties. Also, the incumbent is required to maintain proper safety and sanitary conditions of farm operations and to consult with research, teaching and extension faculty in facilitating animal needs of the Department of Animal Sciences.

- The supervision and evaluation of employees. The incumbent will recruit, hire, and train new personnel and set work schedules for employees.

- Responsibility will be the maintenance of business, facility, personnel, and animal records.

- Other duties as assigned.

Normal Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, eight hours per day for a total of 40 hours per week, but also seasonal extended hours and weekends to facilitate teaching, research and extension goals are possible.

Expected Salary:

$46,000 - $50,000 annually; commensurate with education and experience

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience working on an agricultural operation, including supervision of others. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required years of experience.

Valid Florida driver's license

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences or related agricultural field and possess experience with animal husbandry and management.
