Job Description:

The University of Florida College of Medicine is seeking an Associate Director for the Academy and Outreach program within the Quality and Patient Safety initiative (QPSi). This leadership position will oversee the strategy, development, and execution of educational programming, workforce development tools, and internal and external outreach and communications for the QPSi.

The Associate Director will be responsible for the successful implementation of the QPSi Academy—a signature training platform offering foundational and advanced educational resources in quality improvement, patient safety, healthcare delivery, and applications of artificial intelligence—as well as QPSi’s strategic outreach functions.

This position serves as a key member of the QPSi leadership team and will work in partnership with faculty, clinicians, communications professionals, instructional designers, and other stakeholders to ensure that QPSi’s messaging and educational programs reflect its strategic priorities. The Associate Director will guide a team responsible for website development, content creation, course coordination, visual asset development, and promotional strategy, helping to enhance the visibility, utility, and reach of QPSi education and outreach efforts.

About This Role: 

Education and Workforce Development Program Management

  • Lead the strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of the QPSi educational and outreach efforts ensuring alignment with QPSi’s mission to advance quality, safety, and innovation across the healthcare system to make a state-wide impact. 
  • Partner with subject matter experts including faculty and clinicians, in collaboration with the Office of E-learning, Technology and Communication in the College of Education, and the Office of Continuing Medical Education in the College of Medicine, to guide the design and delivery of Academy courses, micro-learning opportunities and workforce development tools. 
  • Oversee the development and implementation of assessments and feedback mechanisms to inform learning objectives, course materials (both asynchronous and synchronous content) and other innovative educational resources. 
  • Guide the integration of Academy resources with other QPSi programs (e.g., Artificial Intelligence for Quality Improvement (AI/QI) Program), ensuring cohesive development and sustainability.

Strategic Communications Oversight

  • Oversee the planning and execution of QPSi’s outreach strategy across a variety of communication platforms (e.g., digital, web, and print platforms).
  • Guide creation of written content and visual assets (e.g., newsletters, internal reports, infographics, promotional materials) to highlight QPSi programs, achievements, and opportunities.
  • Supervise management and content strategy of the QPSi website, ensuring alignment with university branding, accessibility standards, and communication goals.
  • Coordinate closely with the College of Medicine and UF Health Communications teams to support institution-wide visibility and consistency of QPSi messaging.
  • Lead development of outreach and communication tools to support stakeholder engagement, awareness, and recruitment for QPSi initiatives.

Program Operations and Team Leadership

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and staffing of the Academy and Outreach team, providing mentorship, feedback, and strategic direction.
  • Establish workflows, project plans, and timelines to guide program implementation and content development.
  • Oversee hiring, training, and performance evaluation of team members.
  • Foster a team culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence in communication and education design.

Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting

  • Represent the QPSi Academy and Outreach team in cross-functional meetings, advisory groups, and institutional partnerships.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, health system and university leaders and numerous other stakeholders to identify training needs and communication opportunities.
  • Lead and contribute to the development of presentations, annual reports, and impact assessments and summaries to demonstrate progress and outcomes of QPSi programming.
  • Support grant writing and funding proposals related to workforce development and communication activities.

Expected Salary:

$115,000 - $130,000 Annually

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience or a bachelor’s degree in appropriate areas of specialization and six years of experience.

Preferred:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Ph.D. in Education, Instructional Design, Communication, Health Administration or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in program management, instructional design, strategic communication, or a related role—preferably in an academic health or higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and managing educational or training programs for adult learners, with knowledge of best practices in online and hybrid learning.
  • Familiarity with health care quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical operations, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn and translate complex health-related content.
  • Proficiency in web content management systems (e.g., WordPress, TerminalFour) and learning management systems (e.g., CloudCME or Canvas).
  • Experience leading the development of digital and visual assets, including presentations, infographics, and branded materials using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated experience creating program implementation and communication strategies that align with organizational goals and evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple timelines and priorities across teams.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor staff, build collaborative teams, and foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills, with experience tailoring messages to diverse audiences including clinicians, faculty, leadership, and external stakeholders.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and professionalism with the ability to work effectively with faculty, administrators, staff, and external partners.
