Job Description:

Fly Rail/Rigging Technicians assist full-time UFPA crew and rental/touring personnel in the general load-in, set-up, strike, and load-out of various theatrical productions, work calls, and non-theatrical events. Position requires the ability and willingness to work in different areas of specialization regularly. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the operation of the manual counterweight rigging system, including fly rail, pin rail, and weight rail.
  • Provide guidance to UFPA house crew on safe and correct rigging practices and procedures during load-in, set-up, operation, and load-out of stage productions or work calls.
  • Work closely with UFPA department heads and touring/rental show technical leads.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by following all established safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the inventory, maintenance, and repair of all technical equipment.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the stage and backstage areas.
  • Be flexible and willing to work in different technical areas as needed.
Expected Salary:

$16.00 to $21.00 commensurate with experience 

Minimum Requirements:

• Ability to lift and move 50-70 pounds repeatedly.
• Comfortable working on catwalks, grids, and ladders over 15' high.
• Ability to work at significant heights for extended periods.
• Basic knowledge of theatre and live show equipment and procedures.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Availability for evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and short notice shifts.
• Interest in theatrical production and openness to learning fly rail operation and rigging.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting.
• Willingness to take direction, learn on the job, and adapt to various technical roles.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with basic operation of manual counterweight rigging systems, fly rail, pin rail, and weight rail.
  • Basic understanding of safety practices related to rigging and fly systems.
  • Knowledge of rigging hardware, ropes and knots, load requirements, and various rigging techniques.
  • Familiarity with basic techniques and order of operations for down/up portions of rigging points.
  • Capability to provide training and supervision to other Part-Time OPS Stagehand crew when necessary.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Schedule is highly variable and depends on calendar of events. Hours of work can include daytime, nights, and weekends. Work subject to be maintenance, planning, preparation, technical installation/removal, rehearsals, and/or performances.
