Job Description:

Responsible for assisting with general building maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment and machinery

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on electric motors, appliances, generators, circuits, pumps, air compressors, HVAC equipment, pneumatic control systems and other equipment as necessary
  • Respond to, prioritize, perform, or assign work order requests
  • Operate drill presses, threading and grinding machines
  • Inspect and replace drive belts as needed
  • Lubricate bearings
  • Check appliances for proper operation; make necessary repairs as needed
  • Replace air filters
  • Verify thermostat operation; replace thermostats
  • Clean and vacuum supply and return grilles
  • Responsible for application of chemical treatments to piping systems as needed
  • Maintain adequate inventory of spare parts; coordinate materials and supplies for larger projects; maintain accurate inventory records of parts and tools
  • Perform lock and key work
  • Repair wall coverings, carpet, and general carpentry work using radial and table saws and other related equipment
  • Troubleshoot maintenance equipment and make recommendations for repairs/replacements

Responsible for installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of a variety of plumbing fixtures, equipment, systems, and related parts

  • Perform installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of fixtures including faucets, sinks, traps, commodes, urinals, flush valves, and backflow preventers
  • Unclog drains
  • Responsible for installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of pumps (including sump and circular pumps), valves, air compressors, and pneumatic control devices
  • Monitor and maintain closed-loop water systems
  • Perform soldering of copper pipe
  • Responsible for cutting, threading, and fitting of steel pipe
  • Maintain supply and discharge piping systems; replace diaphragms
  • Install, maintain, repair, and replace sanitary and storm sewer lines

Responsible for assisting with general building projects, repairs, and customer requests

  • Read, interpret, and follow blueprints, plans, schematics, and specifications for plumbing and HVAC system controls (pneumatic and electronic), including thermostats, temperature sensors, flow switches, pressure switches, and control modules
  • Responsible for demolition and space renovation as directed
  • Install piping, controls and ductwork for HVAC systems in renovated areas
  • Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Provide support to other trades and contractors as directed

Responsible for installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of major building systems

  • Monitor and maintain equipment related to steam systems including but not limited to PRVs, condensate systems, heat exchangers, heating hot water, and domestic hot water
  • Install, maintain, repair, and replace equipment including but not limited to dishwashers, disposals, ovens, conveyor belts, choppers, and steam cookers

Develop reports, handle special projects, tasks, and other duties as assigned

Expected Salary:

$24 - $26 Per hour; Commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred:
  • Skilled plumbing trade work
  • Experience using hand and power tools
  • Able to read blueprints, sketches, and diagrams (both in print and electronically)
  • Knowledge in soldering copper pipe assemblies
  • Able to cut, thread, and fit steel pipe
  • Perform basic building maintenance duties including repair of appliances, motors, and similar equipment
  • General knowledge in handling hazardous materials
  • Proficiency with computers and basic software applications
  • Communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  • Understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures

Normal Work Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm with a 30 minute lunch break
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule may be required (including occasional evenings and weekends) depending on the demands of position and/or department needs.
  • JWRU Maintenance staff are ‘essential staff’ and may be called to work if the JWRU is selected as an emergency shelter or essential staff are deemed necessary.
