The Compliance Education & Training Specialist plays a key role in supporting the Office of Physician Billing Compliance at the College of Medicine. This position is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating education and training programs for both providers and non-providers, including physicians, non-physician practitioners, and staff. Training efforts include online modules aligned with the College Compliance Plan and emphasize documentation and coding requirements for state and federal payors, including Medicare and Florida Medicaid.
This crucial role will also conduct federally mandated searches for ineligible or sanctioned individuals and ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Join our team and help shape a culture of compliance and excellence in healthcare education.
About This Role:
- Deliver compliance education to physicians, APRNs, PAs, and staff on documentation, reimbursement, and coding requirements, including new hire and annual training.
- Develop and maintain educational materials and specialty-specific content; lead regular training sessions and weekly new employee orientations.
- Track and manage training records in the compliance education database; coordinate with departments to ensure timely completion of required education.
- Conduct federally mandated searches for sanctioned individuals and maintain documentation to demonstrate institutional compliance.
- Support audits, investigations, and external reviews; assist with encounter form and template reviews.
- Collaborate with college administrators to resolve training issues and disseminate regulatory updates and policy changes.
- Provide one-on-one education to providers following audits or as part of onboarding.
- Assist in planning and executing Compliance Awareness Month activities in partnership with Shands Compliance.
- Contribute to risk assessments, audit documentation, and the evaluation of internal controls and billing processes.

Preferred Qualifications: |
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Previous compliance auditing experience.
- Experience and comfortability presenting education information to providers in a large setting and one-on-one.
- Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and Tricare/Champus regulations pertaining to billing and reimbursement.
- 6 or more years of billing/coding experience.
- Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC).
- Proficiency with medical terminology.
- Proficiency with procedural coding (including Level II HCPCs) and diagnosis coding.
- Proficiency with Evaluation and Management guidelines and CMS Teaching Physician regulations.
- Experience with PowerPoint and Access in a Windows environment.
- Experience with management information systems and medical software.
- Demonstrated ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports for auditing.
