Job Description: |
The incumbent will work in the Triplett lab and conduct sample analysis needed for citrus and tomato field experiments. Extract DNA and protein from human samples such as serum, stool, and saliva. Will be expected to sequence DNA using the Oxford Nanopore Technology platform. Prepare samples for proteomics as needed.
Manage all Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) requirements through the Gator TRACS LATCH system, including: maintaining up-to-date lab personnel records, lab training statuses, chemical inventory, project listings, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as overseeing hazardous waste documentation and disposal according to EH&S requirements.
Responsible for equipment maintenance and monitoring by ensuring proper function and routine maintenance of critical lab instruments, including: -80°C freezers (monitor performance, alarms, and coordinate service as needed), pH meter, gel imager, and other laboratory equipment.
Monitor and maintain stock of general laboratory supplies such as: pipette tips, microcentrifuge tubes, gloves, reagents, and other consumables. Place and track lab supply orders to ensure continuous operation.
Performs related duties as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishment of the responsibilities and functions of the Triplett lab research program.

Expected Salary: |
$25-$28/hour |
Required Qualifications: |
B.S. degree in the biological sciences, laboratory research experience in molecular biology, computer skills such as word and excel, highly organized, excellent digital record keeping, willingness to help with field research.

Preferred: |
Preferred but not required skill sets: PCR, qPCR, understand and appreciate quality control, computer skills such as R and/or python.
