The Associate Director of Engagement for Research and Education is principally tasked with connecting UF COM researchers with industry partners in pursuit of sponsored research funding opportunities, with particular emphasis on AI in biomedical and health sciences applications. Additionally, this position serves as the primary liaison for corporate engagement supporting the Master's in AI in Biomedical and Health Sciences program at the Jacksonville campus.
The Associate Director serves as a strategic interface between large corporations, small and medium sized enterprises, and entrepreneurs within the research enterprise at the University of Florida College of Medicine. In this role, the Associate Director's mission is to provide an effective bridge between COM faculty and the private sector in mutually beneficial collaborations with emphasis on sponsored research opportunities and student internship placements. The Associate Director maintains an active industrial collaboration program that fosters strong ties with companies that can support research programs at UF and promotes such programs with industrial partners nationally and internationally.
About This Role:
Research Partnership Development and Sponsored Research
- Identifies, develops, and maintains strategic partnerships with industry to promote collaborations with UF COM’s research interests in AI, biomedical sciences, and health technologies.
- Acts as primary liaison linking the university's research assets to industry R&D needs to drive opportunities for sponsored research funding.
- Creates and maintains comprehensive database of COM faculty expertise and research capabilities to facilitate appropriate matching with potential industry sponsors.
- Travels to industry conferences, companies, and other venues to promote UF research capabilities and identify partnership opportunities.
- Tracks metrics related to partnership development, proposal submissions, and funding success rates.
Jacksonville Campus Program Leadership and Corporate Engagement
- Serves in an executive leadership role for the Master's in AI in Biomedical and Health Sciences program at the Jacksonville campus, including strategic program development, curriculum alignment with industry needs, and oversight of student outcomes.
- Develops and maintains corporate partnerships to support program objectives and ensures alignment with College strategic priorities.
- Coordinates student internship opportunities and experiential learning partnerships with Jacksonville-area businesses, healthcare systems, and technology companies.
Strategic Business Development
- Conducts market analysis to identify emerging opportunities in AI and biomedical technology sectors. Develops strategic plans for corporate engagement that align with College research priorities and revenue generation goals.
- Creates and implements outreach strategies to engage with potential industry partners through conferences, trade shows, and direct marketing initiatives.
- Collaborates with faculty to develop industry-relevant research proposals and partnership agreements.
Research Coordination and Collaboration
- Coordinates with other UF offices including Division of Sponsored Programs (DSP), UF Innovate (Office of Technology Licensing), and Grants and Contracts to enhance interface with business/industrial community.
- Works closely with College leadership, department chairs, and Senior Associate Dean for Research to identify and promote research capabilities.
- Collaborates with UF Foundation's offices to ensure seamless integration of relationship-building activities.
