The Quality and Patient Safety initiative (QPSi) under the UF College of Medicine (COM) is seeking a Clinical Informaticist to support advanced data science efforts aimed at improving health care quality, operations, and patient safety through the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and probabilistic modeling. This position serves as a critical bridge between clinical stakeholders and data science teams, ensuring translation of clinical workflows and decision points into meaningful data structures that support AI and advanced analytics solutions. The role combines project management, data quality assurance, stakeholder engagement, and analytical reporting to ensure the successful design, deployment, and impact measurement of clinical decision-support tools.
The Clinical Informaticist will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to identify operational and quality-related improvement opportunities, design clinical-data solutions, and ensure tools meet standards for clinical usability and interpretability. The individual in this role will contribute to strategic planning, lead project tracking and delivery, and help ensure ongoing alignment with institutional priorities in AI-enhanced quality and safety initiatives.
About This Role:
Strategy for AI Integration in Clinical Setting
- Partner with clinical and administrative stakeholders to co-design and implement data-informed solutions to improve care delivery and patient safety.
- Participate in AI project prioritization in alignment with QPSi and COM strategic goals and clinical readiness.
- Lead or support project teams focused on AI-enabled solutions, ensuring timelines, task assignments, and deliverables are met.
- Understand current clinical processes and clinical decision space and identify potential data-driven improvements.
- Collaborate with the analytics team to increase clinical value of AI-based solutions.
- Facilitate clinical interpretability and utility of AI and advanced analytics solutions.
- Lead integration of AI-enhanced solutions into clinical settings.
- Facilitate the integration of AI-enhanced tools into clinical operations and electronic health records (EHR).
- Communicate with clinical teams to understand clinical workflows and data reporting within Epic EHR.
- Collaborate with UF Health Quality Office to reconcile internal and external metric definitions.
- Prioritize which data elements should be curated and support curation from Epic EHR to back-end SQL database.
Data Quality and Clinical Validation
- Perform data validation between front-end Epic data and back-end data available to QPSi's AI team.
- Compile data, conduct research, perform independent analysis, and formulate recommendations on adjusting discrepancies between clinical definitions and data proxy definitions.
- Ensure that data definitions are interpretable, defined, and make clinical sense.
- Collaborate with the Integrated Data Repository (IDR) to identify and curate data elements necessary for project success.
- Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) and identify nuances for team discussion on handling special cases.
- Partner with scientists/engineers to explore anomalies, data quality, and gaps.
- Clarify nuisances in data with clinical teams to determine the best handling of data.
- Work with QPSi scientists and engineers to ensure proper use of clinical data in AI modeling.
Reporting and Knowledge Dissemination
- Develop reports and dashboards in SAP BO, PowerBI, Epic Cogito, or other environments to present AI-enhanced project solutions to clinicians to support clinical decision-making. Report on quality metrics as it relates to the impact made by QPSi AI and advanced analytics methods.
- Communicate project findings, quality outcomes, and recommendations through written documentation, reports, and oral presentations.
- Prepare training and communication materials to support healthcare professionals and other stakeholders in how innovative AI and advanced data analytics approaches can improve patient care and operational efficiencies.
- Contribute to agenda preparation for meetings with clinical teams with focus on clinical interpretability of complex scientific methods and their impact on project-specific strategic approach for improved patient care and patient safety.

The ideal candidate should possess:
- Three years of experience working as a clinician in a healthcare system, including inpatient and outpatient environments.
- Active or prior licensure/certification as a healthcare professional (e.g., Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, Pharmacist, Therapist, or equivalent).
- Experience navigating and utilizing Electronic Health Records (EHR), preferably Epic, with a strong understanding of clinical workflows.
- Masters or Doctorate degree in healthcare-related domain.
- Excellent communication skills with clinical, technical, and leadership audiences.
- Experience with reporting and visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, or SAP Business Object.
- Experience with data analytics.
- Familiarity with SQL, Python, or R programming.
- Hands-on experience managing, interpreting, and analyzing healthcare datasets to inform operational or clinical improvements.
- Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to be extremely independent, interact professionally, and utilize effective organizational skills.
- Forward-thinking mentality, actively seeking opportunities and proposing creative solutions with strong decision-making capability.
- Demonstrated success working on interdisciplinary teams, especially involving clinicians, IT, and data professionals.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills with the ability to influence and inspire across functional lines.
