The Director of the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE) is a forward-thinking, strategic leader responsible for guiding the vision and execution of faculty programming and initiatives in the College of Medicine. This role involves collaborating closely with senior leadership to identify faculty development priorities, manage impactful programs and initiatives, oversee Center operations, and lead change management activities. The Director will develop and implement strategies that enhance faculty growth, engagement, satisfaction, and retention, while also expanding the Center's resources and offerings to ensure they are innovative, effective, and tailored to faculty needs.
Acting as a senior advisor, the Director drives transformational change, upholding strong communication standards, and cultivating a welcoming environment for all faculty members. Balancing a strategic outlook with a hands-on approach, they ensure that the Center's initiatives align with broader organizational mission, goals, and strategic priorities. The successful candidate will exhibit a deep commitment to faculty excellence, innovative thinking, and collaborative leadership, with the ultimate goal of growing and advancing the Center's programs and resources.
About This Role:
Strategic Planning and Program Development

Collaborate with the Dean, Director of Human Resources, Chief of Staff, and other college leaders to develop and execute a strategic vision for the center.

Identify long-term and short-term faculty development priorities and initiatives aligned with the college's mission and goals.

Plan, develop, and assist in the implementation of impactful programs, initiatives, and services to support faculty excellence.

Stays informed about best practices and advancements in faculty development, HR and higher education.

Lead the development of the center’s strategy and change management plan.

Translate business needs into strategic initiatives that drive faculty development and innovation, build collaborative partnerships, and enhance organizational development within the culture and environment of a highly matrixed organization.

Monitor and drive progress on faculty strategic objectives and related transformation strategy.

Help prioritize faculty initiatives
-
Cultivate strong partnerships and collaborations with initiative champions and functional leadership to achieve initiative objectives.

Build and foster collaborative relationships with key stakeholders at UFHR, COM, COM HR and across UFHealth.

Enhance the faculty experience and successful adoption of initiatives by applying end user empathy to projects and programs and advising teams on stakeholder engagement and change management.

Remain current on professional development, faculty affairs and HR matters (in partnership with COM HR) within UF and UF Health, and up to date with emerging best practices at the state and national level.
Center Operations and Management

Oversee the Center's operations, ensuring streamlined and efficient processes.

Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Manage the center's budget and resources effectively, ensuring fiscal responsibility.

Constructs and manages faculty data in collaboration with HR
Program Management

Directly manages high-priority projects and strategic initiatives on behalf of the Dean

Direct high-priority projects and strategic initiatives

Mentor and develop project management capabilities across collaborative team members.

Tracks the status, monitors progress and communicate status of numerous concurrent projects. Reports progress to relevant leaders.

Oversees faculty-related events, including new faculty retreat.
Organizational Culture and Faculty Experience

Oversee initiatives related to effective faculty onboarding, engagement, and retention in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders.

Collaborate with HR and, where appropriate, faculty council on onboarding, wellness, and other faculty-focused initiatives that support a positive and engaging work environment.

Create a comprehensive faculty lifecycle program that encompasses recruitment, onboarding, development, retention, and offboarding, delivering a best-in-class employee experience.
Change Management and Communications

Lead change management activities for the center.

Establish centralized communication standards and stay updated on best practices.

Collaborate with the COM communication team for external Center communications.
- Use data-driven insights to guide strategic decisions and develop initiatives
Senior Advisor

Serve as an advisor to COM leadership, offering insights on emerging trends in faculty affairs that may impact COM/UF Health.

Strategizes with the Chief Operating Officer, College of Medicine HR Director, Chief of Staff and other senior leadership on institutional planning, policy development, and problem resolution.

Advises on strategic decisions, sensitive issues, and long-range planning.

Provide context and background on issues, advising on institutional policies and operations.

Interacts with university constituents to ensure that new initiatives and actions synergize with the strategic vision and support COM, UF, and UF Health priorities.
Reporting and Professional Development
- Prepare reports, presentations, and topics of strategic importance for relevant leadership.
- Represent the COM in professional development activities and present findings at regional and national conferences.
- Engage in advanced learning opportunities to enhance strategic management capabilities and business acumen, ensuring the Center benefits from the latest in leadership and operational insights.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement and innovation of the Center by integrating new knowledge and practices from comprehensive business and management studies.
