Job Description: |
CONDUCTING RESEARCH
The assignment will include, but will not be limited to:
- Leading projects independently and producing data of sufficient quality for publication and funding applications.
- Reading and analyzing relevant literature; contributing new ideas, actively engaging in scientific discussion, and providing expertise to inform group discussion of new concepts.
- Developing and publishing abstracts/publications to disseminate data; presenting data at scientific meetings; preparing figures and other elements necessary for grant submissions; collaborating closely with the Principal Investigator to submit grant proposals to fund research.
- Performing assays of organelle cell biology and function, including isolation, collaboration with our research core colleagues, developing and optimizing protocols.
- Cell culture with various central nervous system cell types and with primary brain tumor patient-derived cell lines, generating new cell lines from original patient tumor samples.
- Performing epigenetics-based experiments and data analysis, including but not limited to bisulfite sequencing, TA cloning, CRISPR-based applications, adherent/suspension cell cultures of patient-derived tumor cells, cell or animal imaging.
- Immunocytochemistry and fluorescent microscopy-based cell imaging.
Intracranial injections of patient-derived tumor cells into animal models; performing in vivo survival experiments in animal models.
- Performing high-throughput studies including methylation array experiments, RNA-seq experiments, CRISPR-based studies, and other genome-wide analyses.
Collaborations with the high-throughput drug screening center at UF Scripps in Jupiter, FL, as needed.
SUPERVISING AND MENTORING
These activities will include, but will not be limited to:
- Participate in one-on-one mentoring activities.
- Supervise visiting scholars and technologists who participate in relevant research activities.
- Managing a positive, enthusiastic lab environment, including open collaboration and assisting others with a team-based paradigm.

Preferred: |
A previous assistant scientist position is highly preferred. Fluent/proficient in English (conversational speaking, scientific discussion, reading, and scientific writing). Extensive experience in molecular cloning, live cell microscopy, including time-lapse fluorescent imaging in the context of organelle biology, quantification & analysis of results, neuro-oncology-specific experimental design paradigms involving cellular chemotherapy treatments in vitro, and organelle-related cell physiology analysis. Prior experience working with rodent animal models and surgeries.
