Job Description:

The Congenital Heart Center, at the Shands’ Children’s Hospital, University of Florida Gainesville is seeking a full-time Pediatric Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist. The ideal candidate will be academically motivated board certified/eligible in Pediatric Cardiology with additional training completed in pediatric heart failure, transplant, and ventricular assist devices. Experience with DCD is highly desirable. The candidate’s primary clinical responsibility will be to work within the Heart failure and transplant multidisciplinary team. The responsibilities include care of patients with cardiomyopathies, heart failure, transplant, congenital heart disease, and ventricular assist devices. Responsibilities will also include teaching fellows, residents, and medical students. Pursuing individual scholarly interests is encouraged and supported.

Proposed academic rank will be commensurate with training and experience. The desired candidate will have a passion to providing exceptional patient care and innovation alongside of our current heart failure transplant cardiologists and advanced practitioners.

The Heart Failure and Transplant team consists of three full time transplant cardiologists, four transplant nurse practitioners, two social workers and other administrative/ancillary staff.  The surgical team has four cardiothoracic surgeons with vast experience in transplantation and mechanical support of complex congenital patients as well as cardiomyopathies.

The UF Health Congenital Heart Center is ranked among the nation’s top cardiology & heart surgery programs by US News & World Report. Our training program includes 4 general cardiology fellows and 2 advanced training fellows. Our cardiac program provides comprehensive care for complex medical and surgical patients from newborn to adults in our dedicated pediatric cardiac intensive care unit. Approximately 320 cardiac operations per year are performed at our center, including on an average 18 pediatric cardiac transplants and 10-12 children receiving ventricular assist devices with continued growth over the past several years. The Pediatric Heart Failure & Transplant Program at UF Health is one of the largest and most successful pediatric heart transplant centers in Florida and the Southeast. Since the inception of the heart transplant program, we have performed >350 pediatric heart transplants. Our program is proud to have excellent quality and outcomes compared to national average. 

The University of Florida is the premier quaternary care medical center and academic teaching hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Shands Children’s Hospital is located on the University of Florida campus. The Congenital Heart Center has a 23-bed pediatric cardiac intensive care unit, dedicated cardiac operating rooms, catheterization labs, and step-down inpatient beds on the pediatric floor.
