Job Description:

This position is located in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS), College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP) and will serve as the research coordinator to the Directors of the Collaborative Advancement of Airway Rehabilitation (CAAR) Lab, and the Director of the Communication Equity and Outcomes (CEO) Lab. The candidate will coordinate research study visits with participants, train incoming lab members, schedule lab meetings and other lab-related events, and distribute research assignments to lab personnel, including but not limited to student volunteers, graduate assistants, postdoctoral associates, and clinical research therapists. Responsibilities include regulatory oversight (IRB and sponsor-related), performing research evaluations and treatments, participant screening and recruiting for enrollment, meetings with research participants, and overseeing data entry and data management. The coordinator will also assist Primary Investigators (Drs. Ellis Jr, Hegland, and Mir) with preparing presentations, grant submissions, journal manuscripts, and oral and poster presentations. Finally, the candidate will collaborate with college Research Administrators to request, submit, and complete purchases, orders, and payment invoices.

Duties and responsibilities include: 

Perform research evaluations in the laboratory. Screen, recruit, and conduct meetings with research participants. Coordinate research study visits with participants. Analyze research participants and corresponding data. Monitor and audit studies. Regulatory oversight (IRB and sponsor related) performing research evaluations and treatments, participant screening and recruiting for enrollment, meetings with research participants, and overseeing data entry and data management. Prepare for meetings with the UF Institutional Review Board. Oversee data entry and data management including but not limited to Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) projects, create new projects for future projects, and export data to Microsoft Excel, Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), etc. for analysis. Respond to all regulatory requirements. Schedule lab meetings and other lab-related events, and distribute research assignments to lab personnel, including but not limited to student volunteers, graduate assistants, postdoctoral associates, and clinical research therapists. performing research evaluations and treatments, participant screening and recruiting for enrollment, meetings with research participants, and overseeing data entry and data management. Assist Primary Investigators (Drs. Ellis Jr, Hegland, and Mir) with preparing presentations, grant submissions, journal manuscripts, and oral and poster presentations. Collaborate with college Research Administrators to request, submit, and complete purchases, orders, and payment invoices.

Coordinate lab personnel, including but not limited to undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral associates, and clinical fellows, working on the Primary Investigators’ research studies. Train new lab personnel on various analysis methods. Coordinate and maintain required compliance training to ensure that lab members remain current on university, college, and grant regulation trainings. Organize and facilitate research/project team meetings. Coordinate schedules for lab members. Provide leadership for assigning tasks amongst lab members and prioritize assignments based on deadlines. Provide staff with support and feedback on performance of tasks. Identify research lab staffing needs and train incoming lab members. Collaborate with Primary Investigators (PIs) and PHHP Research Administrator to ensure lab personnel payroll distributions allocate correctly on grant funded research projects.

Provide assistance and support to the Primary Investigators with preparing presentations, grant submissions and related paperwork, journal manuscripts, and oral and poster presentations.

Collaborate with the PHHP Research Activities to request, submit, and complete purchases, orders, and payment invoices for the lab and its affiliated projects and funding sources. Submit orders for supplies, equipment, and service items. Assist department and college asset management with tracking equipment.

Assist with PIs Indirect Costs (IDC) and grant budgets, maintain inventory lists, and project binders.

Expected Salary:

$70,000 - $85,000 annually; commensurate with education and experience.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and three years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

• Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology and completion of Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP).
• Experience working as research coordinator engaged in human subject research and research compliance.
• Working knowledge of human subject research protection related to regulations, laws, and institutional policies.
• Ability to act as a liaison and use negotiation skills to assist Primary Investigators with processing protocol.
• Clinicians with videofluoroscopic swallow study (VFSS) and fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) experience preferred but not required.
• Highly motivated and self-directed individual, making progress with limited supervision.
• Responsible meeting deadlines.
• Detail oriented.
• Strong verbal and written communications skills. Ability to interact professionally with faculty, staff, students, and research participants.
• Capacity and motivation to learn new software, research methods, and work routines quickly; flexibility in responding to new research opportunities as they arise.
• Motivation to engage in and manage a wide range of intellectual and physical work, ranging from preparing mass mailings to analyzing proposed data-collection designs.
• Ability to share responsibilities and rewards with a team of coworkers, including off-campus participants and UF faculty, staff, and students.
• Adept with Microsoft Office programs. the internet, and electronic communications.
• Strong data management background and managerial experience to assist with data management of projects.
• Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
