Job Description:

Join Our Aquatic Invasive Plants Research Team

The University of Florida's Agricultural Center is seeking a motivated undergraduate student to join our Aquatic Invasive Plants research team. This position offers hands-on experience in environmental science and aquatic ecology while contributing to important conservation efforts across Florida's waterways.

Job Responsibilities: Assist in ongoing research projects at the Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants, including graduate student project assistance; three projects are currently in need of assistance.

  • Old World climbing fern (Lygodium microphyllum): fern gametophyte biology and ecology.
  • Cogongrass (Imperata cylindrica): Hydrologic influences, chemical control, and treatment timing
  • Cuban bulrush (Cyperus blepharoleptos): Integrated chemical and mechanical control, genetic influences

Some of your tasks may include:

  • Supporting local research in Gainesville through the maintenance and data collection of laboratory and greenhouse studies.
  • Participating in field-based research through setup, execution of treatments, and data collection throughout Florida (including various state parks and national preserves)
  • Executing propagation protocols to cultivate fern gametophytes, including agar plate propagation, vegetative propagation for a variety of upland and littoral species, soil-mixing, repotting, watering, pest management, and fertilization in greenhouses

Expected Salary:

$14.00/hour - 15.00/hour commensurate with education and experience

Preferred  Current enrolled undergraduate student at UF interested in weed science, botany, ecology, or environmental science.
