Job Description: |
CLAS Communications seeks a full-time Writer to help elevate the college’s brand and showcase our programs, people, and research. The Writer produces clear, engaging content across print and digital channels and collaborates with colleagues and campus partners on story development and strategic projects. Key responsibilities include:
- Write and proofread for print (e.g., Ytori magazine, newsletters, invitations, posters, news articles, brochures, letters, fact sheets); submit to editor for final review.
- Plan and execute content projects: identify subjects, interview faculty/staff/students/alumni, research/background, and tailor voice/tone to the medium.
- Write and proofread for digital (news site, unit webpages, dean’s updates, email communications); submit to editor for final review.
- Support special communications projects as assigned by the editor.
- Contribute basic photography/videography as needed.

Expected Salary: |
The salary is $45,000 - $50,000.

Required Qualifications: |
Associate’s degree and two years of appropriate experience or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization.

Preferred: |
- Bachelor’s in English, Journalism, or related field and a Master’s degree; 2+ years in a communications role; adherence to professional journalistic standards.
- Mastery of AP Style with experience in substantive editing, copyediting, and proofreading.
- Proven ability to juggle multiple projects, meet deadlines, manage priorities, and communicate progress.
- Exceptional writing: translate complex topics into clear, lively, accessible prose; familiarity with strategic messaging; growth mindset and sense of humor.
- Web fluency: accessibility and basic SEO for the web; social media proficiency; experience with Google Analytics.
- Tools: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, Acrobat); email marketing platforms (Emma, Mailchimp, HubSpot).
- Visuals & data: data visualization, photography, and videography experience.
- Collaboration & setting: organized self-starter who can work independently and on teams; comfortable interacting with university faculty about their research.
