Job Description:

The R01 Boot Camp Biostatistical Student Assistant will serve as a research support professional providing statistical assistance to R01 Boot Camp mentees and program faculty. Under supervision, the position will support study design, data processing and analysis, model development, and preparation of tables, figures, and reports for research proposals. The role focuses on assisting with the statistical components of research planning and grant proposal development while maintaining accurate and organized research records.

About This Role:

Study Design and Statistical Planning

  • Under supervision, assist in developing study designs and analysis plans for research projects.
  • Perform power and sample size calculations.
  • Contribute to statistical planning and methodology for research proposals.

Data Integration, Processing, and Analysis

  • Integrate and process data from various sources.
  • Perform data analysis and assist in building statistical or machine learning models.
  • Generate tables, figures, and visualizations for inclusion in research proposals.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare clear reports summarizing analysis results and recommendations.
  • Participate in writing sections of study design, analysis plans, and results for proposals.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records of analyses and research materials.

Other Duties and Mentee Support

  • Perform other duties as assigned by executive leadership and organizational priorities.
  • Communicate with mentees to identify and clarify their statistical support needs.
  • Monitor and track mentee progress on biostatistical components of proposals.
  • Assist program staff with coordinating statistical support as needed.
Expected Salary:

$15 - $18 per hour; commensurate with education and experience.

Required Qualifications:

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus. Registered students are employed on a part-time bases, up to 20 hours per week

Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current enrollment in a Master’s or PhD degree program in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • Experience with programming languages (R, SAS, Python).
  • Experience in power and sample size calculations.
  • Experience in study design, statistical analysis methods (such as regression analysis, longitudinal data analysis, categorical data analysis, and survival analysis), and machine/deep learning.
  • Experience with working with different types of data such as electronic health records, clinical text, imaging, and omics.
  • Proven data integration, management, visualization, and analysis skills.
  • Experience in research methodology and grant development processes.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of collaborative research teams.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills for program coordination and interaction with diverse faculty and staff.
  • Good writing skills and experience in grant and manuscript writing.
