Job Description:

The College of Dentistry, Department of Oral Biology is seeking applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, Research Assistant Scientist. The Gibson lab is looking for a Research Assistant Scientist interested in the area of host-pathogen interaction, and periodontal disease pathogenesis with focus in microbial and/or host immune mechanisms of disease.

Responsibilities include leading and conducting ongoing research and developing new research directions in host–pathogen interactions within the Gibson Lab, that align and extend from ongoing research in the lab.  Key duties include designing experiments and research protocols, collaborating with the PI to define and expand research direction, analyzing and interpreting data, preparing manuscripts, and presenting results within the department and/or at national/international conferences.  Furthermore, it is anticipated that this individual will work to seek research support for developing new lines of investigation.  Prior or current experience with grant proposal writing is a plus.

This is a basic research position.  Minimum requirements include PhD or similar terminal degree including dual-trained scientists.  Training and documented expertise in microbiology, host-pathogen interaction and/or innate immunity with a focus in anaerobic bacteria, and bacteria linked to periodontal disease or the oral cavity is preferred.  Technical and conceptual expertise with cell culture and animal model systems is required, experience/functional understanding with transcriptomics in particular dual-transcriptomics approaches in characterizing bacterial/host interaction is desirable, and fundamental understanding of microbial CRISPR-cas systems would be a plus.

Expected Salary:

Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience.
