Establishes and maintains robust IT operational, cybersecurity, and data-governance policies that aligned with UF standards as well as applicable federal and commercial requirements relevant to space research activities. Ensures Astraeus systems, networks, and technical processes meet the technical expectations of mission-critical environments, including after-hours operational monitoring and response protocols.
Research Data, Mission Data, and Scientific Computing Support – Supports faculty, staff, and research teams by providing high-availability hardware and software platforms for scientific data collection, high-volume data transfer, storage, mission telemetry archiving, modeling, and analytics workflows. Manages secure research data pipelines and ensures compliance with UF policies, federal research standards, export-control considerations, and sponsor requirements related to space mission data. Works with campus units to source virtual computing resources and specialized computing environments necessary for Astraeus research and mission activity.
Customer Support and Operational Reliability – Oversees desktop/laptop support and general IT services for Astraeus personnel. This includes configuration of workstations, printers, peripherals, hardware and software; subsequent maintenance, lifecycle planning, monitoring, and troubleshooting of installed equipment and software; and receiving, prioritizing, scheduling and addressing help requests. The selected candidate must ensure rapid response and accurate diagnosis of hardware and software systems in a complex, hybrid research and mission-control environment. Supports mission-control operator stations, display systems, and technical consoles with an emphasis on minimizing downtime, especially during active mission operations or external partner collaborations.
Advanced Systems Infrastructure and Real-Time Operations Support – Manages Astraeus’s high-performance computing and networking environments, including the specialized infrastructure required for real-time mission tracking, telemetry display, and communication with federal and commercial space-flight partners. Works closely with UFIT, external vendors, and federal partners to provision secure high-bandwidth connectivity and maintain 24/7/365 operational posture for the MOCC. Oversees server infrastructure, virtualization resources, storage systems, firewall and ACL provisioning, large-scale display systems, and remote-access environments. Responsible for role-based access control and ensuring system reliability during active mission windows.
