The University of Florida (UF) Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program is seeking a part-time Student Assistant who is enrolled in graduate school to join our team. This grant-funded, OPS student position reports to the McNair Director and supports key activities essential to the program’s success. Applicants must be available throughout the academic year, including summer, and commit to at least one year in the role. The position is renewable depending on demonstrated success and continued funding.
About the McNair Scholars Program:
Housed within UF Student Success, the McNair Scholars Program provides a pathway to graduate school for first-generation undergraduate students from limited-income backgrounds. Each year, the program supports 25 outstanding scholars from diverse disciplines, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to successfully pursue Ph.D. studies. McNair Scholars engage in faculty-mentored research and participate in other scholarly activities designed to enhance their academic journey and prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of doctoral education.
The McNair Scholars Program is a federal TRIO initiative, supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education and additional funding from UF. We are a small program that makes a BIG impact!
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist with coordinating and facilitating workshops, trainings, and orientations for the academic development of McNair Scholars in preparation for graduate school.
- Assist with planning and execution of McNair signature events, recruiting activities, and social, cultural, and wellness activities.
- Maintain and regularly update the McNair website and social media accounts with timely, accurate, and engaging content.
- Create program publications, including newsletters, brochures, and flyers, in collaboration with the McNair staff.
- Assist with guidance, oversight, and training of the McNair Ambassadors.
- Offer direct support to McNair Scholars for research activities, graduate school applications, and other academic needs.
- Assist with tracking and documenting accomplishments of current and past participants.
- Assist with compiling data for annual reporting and program assessment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations.

| Preferred: |
- Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Teams, Canvas, and graphic design software, e.g. Canva.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
- Demonstrated dependability, organizational skills, and professionalism.
- Experience in teaching, workshop facilitation, and/or delivering presentations.
- Ability to work well with within a team and contribute to a positive office environment.
- Knowledge of or experience working with first-generation and/or low-income students.
- Experience with student leadership and event planning.
