Job Description:

The Core/Principal Faculty is a vital role of the University of Florida School of Physician Assistant Studies (UF SPAS) team and is responsible for contributing to the program's mission through assignments in education and administration. This position will work to deliver high-quality instruction, support curriculum development, conduct student assessments and engage in scholarly activities. This appointment is a part-time, 0.50 FTE, non-tenure track faculty appointment in the College of Medicine.

About This Role:

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative individual who is passionate about education and eager to join a dedicated, collaborative team. As a core faculty member, your responsibilities will include:

Teaching and Education 

  • Deliver high-quality instruction to PA students in classroom settings, clinical skills labs, and through experiential (simulation) learning activities.
  • Serve as a course director, overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of assigned courses. 
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate course materials and instructional strategies that align with program learning outcomes and competencies. 
  • Participate in the development and implementation of assessment tools to evaluate student performance and competencies.
  • Contribute to the execution of remediation plans to support student success and progression.

Student and Programmatic Support 

  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to PA students, supporting their academic and professional development. 
  • Participate in service responsibilities within the school, college, and professional community, including involvement in admissions and accreditation activities.
  • Participate (attend, pre/post work) in UF SPAS committees as assigned per Program Director. 
  • Assist with the operations of the didactic and clinical years as assigned. 
  • Support College of Medicine and UF SPAS strategic initiatives to include growth and expansion.

Scholarship and Professional Development 

  • Engage in scholarly activities, including research, publications, and presentations, to advance the field of physician assistant studies and contribute to the academic community. 
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge and skills in teaching, clinical practice, and scholarly activities. 
  • Participate in workshops, conferences, and other professional development opportunities relevant to the field of physician assistant studies.

Expected Salary:

$62,500 - $65,000 (pro-rated salary for 0.50 FTE); commensurate with education and experience.

Required Qualifications:

Education and Certification:

  • Current certification by the NCCPA (for PA applicants) and FL State licensure (or eligibility for licensure).
  • If applicant is not a current Florida resident, a valid medical license in the state of current residence is required.
  • MD and DO applicants must hold specialty board certification in their area of instruction, in accordance with accreditation guidelines for supervising PA students.
Preferred:

The ideal candidate will possess: 

  • Master’s degree from an ARC-PA accredited PA program (or related medical discipline, i.e., MD or DO).
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in clinical practice or healthcare education.
  • Demonstrated effective teaching experience in the classroom and/or clinical setting.
  • Doctoral degree in related field.
