Classification Minimum Requirements:

Associate’s degree in a biological/chemical/veterinary field and one year of experience working in a laboratory; or a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience working in a laboratory.

Job Description:

•Performs a variety of routine biological and chemical test procedures on blood, urine and other body fluids and tissues, from clinical and research animals. Procedures are performed in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis and cytology laboratories. Procedures are performed in a timely manner, including preparing specimens for analysis, maintaining records, recognizing conditions that may affect test results and reacting appropriately, and accurately recording and reporting test results in written and electronic format.

•Performs preventive maintenance and quality control on laboratory equipment and analytical procedures at required intervals. Documents maintenance, QC, and responds to equipment errors are indicated by out-of-range quality control results and verifies patient results that may have been affected.

•Promote understanding, cooperation, customer service and communication with other UFVH departments by answering questions concerning laboratory protocols and procedures from clinicians, students, and staff as well as referring veterinarians.

•Assists in the training.

•Conserves laboratory resources by preparing reagents and using supplies and equipment as necessary and intended to perform job duties.

•Performs administrative support job duties in the clinical pathology as assigned or as needed. Proactively triage and processes specimens appropriately for the test requested and in a timely manner; enters lab results and/or charges in the correct account or medical record promptly, sends test results to outside clients; prepares specimens for shipments to referral labs as needed.

•Maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of laboratories. Recognizes and takes action to correct unsafe conditions or hazards and notifies staff or safety/security as needed.

•This position requires participation in a rotating on-call schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Expected Salary:

$15.00-$19.00 / hour

Preferred:

Experience in a veterinary setting (clinic, laboratory, etc.). Experience with point of care analyzers and test kits.

Health Assessment Required:
