Job Description:

The Maintenance and Landscape Coordinator at the Harn Museum

  • Ensures that the entire building—from its HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical wiring, and lighting to its interior and exterior paint, carpentry, and masonry—operates flawlessly and remains in compliance with museum standards.
  • Conducts frequent inspections, recommends repairs, and oversees both custodial care and the coordination of external contractors
  • Collaborates with museum departments and volunteer groups to prepare spaces for events and facilitate equipment movement.
  • Maintains parking lots, outdoor walkways, lighting, and other surface features
  • Schedules and oversees departmental requests for special projects that are scheduled through work orders
  • Collaborates with the University of Florida Facilities Services in the supervision and museum-specific training of custodians and part-time staff, ensuring that museum protocols are followed.
  • Maintains plants, planting beds, and water features, including, but not limited to weeding, trimming plants, watering plants, cleaning water features, etc.
Based on research, makes recommendations for landscaping to the Harn’s Building Maintenance & Security Supervisor regarding climate-appropriate plants, plant care, and landscape design.
Expected Salary:

$18.00 - $18.50 per hour 

Required Qualifications:
  • Two years of experience in landscape and maintenance fields
  • In-depth knowledge of building and equipment maintenance; mechanical equipment found in large public buildings; construction and building trades; procedures, practices, tools and equipment used to maintain public buildings and grounds. 
  • Skilled at routine repairs.
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of museum systems, policies and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent supervisory and human relations skills
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to monitor the work of outside contractors and to make sound recommendations relating to the general maintenance of a public facility.
  • Ability to maintain positive work relationships with fellow employees, contractors, vendors, volunteers, and visitors.
