UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking two talented and highly motivated, part-time Support and Applications Interns to join Research Computing, a unit within UFIT, for the spring semester. This semester-long, paid internship is designed to provide students currently enrolled in college an opportunity to learn practical skills and gain experience to propel them into a successful career in Information Technology. The interns will assist the RC Support and Services Team with Tier1 HiPerGator user support, application installation, and reference data management.
The internship location is the New Physics Building on the main campus.
Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are:
- Development of support-related scripts/tools/databases/web applications
- Installation, troubleshooting, and HPC adaptation of research applications on HiPerGator
- Support service request triage
- Basic HPC user support via ticketing system and slack
Some key learning outcomes for the student intern are:
- Programming experience (support tool and web app development)
- Practical understanding of contemporary research computing infrastructure and applications
- HPC application installation skills
- Application troubleshooting and modification
- Identification, documentation, and execution of project tasks and performance objectives
- Developing customer service and communication skills that demonstrate openness, sensitivity, and the ability to interact respectfully with all people
