| Job Description: |
This Biological Scientist III position will bring scientific and scholarly contributions, train lab members and function as a laboratory safety and compliance officer in the Physiology and Aging department's Gumz lab.
Scientific contributions:
- Design and carry out in vitro and in vivo studies, including conducting experiments with cultured cells, mice and rats
- Rodent colony management in collaboration with the PI and UF ACS staff
- Perform circadian rhythm research in rodents and cells, which may require working outside of standard operating hours
Scholarly contributions:
- Evaluate new lab technologies
- Assist the PI in generating reports, papers, and presentations for disseminating research results
- Develop and improve methods for studying renal excretory function
Training:
- Teach students and postdocs to conduct standard laboratory procedures for in vitro and in vivo studies
Laboratory safety and compliance officer:
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and analyze data.
- Manage and maintain lab safety protocols and training for all lab members. This includes coordinating chemical and biohazard waste management
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for in vitro and in vivo studies
Miscellaneous:
- Collaborate with vendors on potential new lab technologies
- Manage lab activities such as ordering of all lab supplies
- Work with the PI to develop and monitor operating budgets
- Other related duties as assigned.

| Expected Salary: |
$60,000 - $62,000 annually
|
| Required Qualifications: |
Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field and seven years of experience, or Master's degree in biology or a related field with five years of experience. Doctoral degree in biology or related field with two years of experience. |
| Preferred: |
The successful candidate will have at least 10 years of research experience working with mice and rats and performing molecular, cellular, and biochemical assays, including but not limited to PCR, genotyping, processing of DNA, RNA, and protein ELISAs. Extensive experience with circadian rhythm research is preferred.
