Job Description:

GIS Support – Assist with maintaining, editing, and quality-controlling enterprise GIS and CAD datasets under the guidance of senior staff. Create and update maps, drawings, and basic cartographic products using GIS, CAD, and LiDAR software. Support spatial analysis, geocoding, and data updates for campus planning and operations. Compare digital GIS and CAD data with hardcopy maps, surveys, sketches, and source documents to verify accuracy. Enter, update, and query spatial and tabular data using GIS applications. Support the campus-wide GIS program by assisting with basemap updates and preparation of maps, presentations, and visual materials as required. Read and interpret plats, surveys, and basic legal descriptions.

External GIS Support– Supports the University’s utilities infrastructure in GIS. Compiles data from a variety of sources, including digital sources, imagery, surveys, as-built documentation, sketches, etc., into the GIS enterprise. Conducts field GPS validations to ensure an accurate record. Utilize both desktop and web applications for data dissemination. Assist with map and location data for the Campus Master Plan. Coordinate with and support other UF entities’ GIS needs.

Field Data Collection and Verification – Assist with periodic field work to collect, verify, and update spatial data. Use GPS devices, mobile GIS applications, and measuring tools to support data accuracy. Document field observations and submit collected data for review. Work with team members to reconcile field data with GIS records.  

Data Coordination and Documentation Support – Coordinate with other municipalities on shared geospatial data. Document workflows, dataset updates, analyses performed, etc. to ensure accuracy, traceability, and continuity. Support coordination with internal departments and external partners on shared geospatial data. Help research and organize existing facility and project documentation for reference and QA/QC purposes. Assist with reviewing contractor drawings and survey data for completeness and accuracy.

Perform other duties (as assigned by supervisor).

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:

• Normal work schedule: Monday through Friday, 08:00 am to 05:00 pm
• Flexibility to adjust work schedule is required to meet department demand of occasional evening or weekend work (including emergency situations) to ensure business operations are functioning optimally during extended hours.  Emergency situations may include computer or server failures, application issues, or other IT-related problems. This position may be an after-hours on-call position.

Expected Salary:

$26.34 - $28.74 hourly based on experience

Required Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization or an equivalent combination of education and experience. GIS or AutoCAD proficiency required, per the unit's needs.

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in geography, computer science, engineering, or related fields
  • One to three years of experience preferred
  • Familiarity with utilities and IT infrastructure, networks, and drone mapping is helpful but not required.
  • Working knowledge of GIS devices and imagery preferred.
  • The ability to read plats/legal descriptions is appropriate but not mandatory
