This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus in Gainesville. Students must maintain a minimum of a 2.0 GPA. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis for a maximum of 20 hours per week.

Job Description:

The Hitchcock Field & Fork Pantry is dedicated to building a more food-secure campus for the UF community. Responsible for providing free access to nutritious food for any campus member, the Pantry is at the forefront of meeting campus members’ basic food needs.

Students of all majors are encouraged to apply, though students with a background or current graduate work in the following areas will be strongly considered: public health, health education and promotion, counseling and counselor education, business administration, or higher education/educational leadership.

This position will be supervised and tasked by, and work in collaboration with the Pantry Coordinator and above. 

Primary responsibilities will include the following:

•     Ensure the pantry is always fully stocked and alerts the Pantry Coordinator when food orders need to be placed.

  • Food procurement, including driving the pantry van to secure and distribute donations and orders.

•     Assure all donations are weighed, documented, inspected for safety, sorted and stored appropriately.

•     Work at the check-out counter as needed.

•     Support the coordination of food drives.

•     Make sure food storage and workspaces both in the front of the house and back of the house are kept clean and organized.

•     Appropriately dispose of boxes and inedible foods (recycling/composting).

•     Adhere to all operational procedures related to Pantry safety and security including the training of all staff and volunteers in food safety protocols.

•     Assign tasks to volunteers as needed.

Time Commitment:

  • Be able to work 10 to 20 hours per week.
  • Must have weekday daytime availability.
  • Ideal start date: April 2026 training
  • Must be able to commit to Summer 2026. This is a limited summer position with the possibility of continuing in the 26-27 academic year.

Position reporting structure:

This position will be supervised and tasked by, and work in collaboration with the Pantry Coordinator and above.

General Expectations:

The employee is expected to be highly responsible, organized, excellent communicators, and autonomous. The dress code is business casual and closed-toe shoes. 

Expected Salary:

$15.00/Hr.

Required Qualifications:

  • Be able to work office hours physically in the Hitchcock Field & Fork Pantry
  • Be able to lift 40lbs
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Be able to attend any required training and Pantry staff meetings.
  • Have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Preferred:
  • Upperclassman, Graduate student, or Professional student preferred.  
  • Have experience through employment, teaching, or volunteering in the field of food service, retail, food insecurity, social services, public health, nutrition, or wellness.
  • Demonstrate customer service experience.
  • Strong interest in food security, social services, food access, and/or food systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with public speaking and/or group facilitation.
  • Ability to work on a team and connect with others easily. 
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Excellent leadership skills and experience leading a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work with new software and data.
  • Willing to work in a high pace environment.
