| Job Description: |
The Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine is accepting applications for a Biological Scientist III. The Biological Scientist III position in Rare Diseases will reside in the laboratory of Dr. Jane Yu. The applicant will organize and direct the daily activities of the laboratory and will be responsible for supervising laboratory personnel, conducting and overseeing quality assurance and quality control, and collecting, analyzing, and interpreting lab results.
Essential Functions;
Research and Analysis • Administer research projects related to heart, lung, and kidney abnormalities. Design and perform related experiments with expertise in biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, physiology, including western blot, real-time PCR, ELISA, immunocytochemistry, cell culture, and histology. •Review statistical studies, technological advances, and regulatory standards. •Conduct data analysis, summary, and figure presentation for manuscripts and grant applications.
Communication & Scientific Dissemination •Disseminate research results through reports, papers, and presentations. • Present results at local seminars and scientific meetings.
Animal Related Surgery-Imaging Experiments and Breeding Colony Maintenance •Animal colony management, genotyping, in vivo imaging, and small animal surgery.
Laboratory Safety, Managerial and Administrative Duties
•Organize and direct the daily activities of the laboratory. •Train lab technicians and students about research methods. •Supervise laboratory personnel and review laboratory team reports and proposals for accuracy and adherence to policies and regulations.
• Coordinate the developmental safety program for all laboratory settings, or specialized scientific or hazardous materials stores. • Develop and maintain protocol submissions, revisions and amendments.

| Expected Salary: |
$80,000 - $90,000 annually

| Required Qualifications: |
Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field and seven years of experience or Master's degree in biology or a related field with five year of experience. Doctoral degree in biology or related field with two years of experience.

| Preferred: |
MD or equivalent degree in biomedical sciences. Lab management experiences Experience with small animal surgery and non-invasive imaging in research. Previous involvement in interdisciplinary research projects. |
