Job Description:

The University of Florida is looking for an Accountant III to serve as a team lead for accounting services within the Division of Enrollment Management. In this role, you will provide division-level financial oversight, manage complex accounting functions, coordinate budgets and student financial aid funds, and supervise accounting staff.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Accounting, Compliance, and Reporting

  • Manage accounting functions for the Division of Enrollment Management and its units, including complex financial issues, contracts, and grants funding.
  • Administer and oversee division-wide accounting systems.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain accounting procedures, policies, and internal audit practices.
  • Maintain general and subsidiary ledgers and continuously evaluate system effectiveness.
  • Coordinate monthly review, analysis, and reconciliation of state and cash-based funds.
  • Review expenditures, balances, and transactional detail to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare routine monthly reports and complex ad-hoc financial reports.
  • Monitor and improve accounting processes in collaboration with the Finance team.
  • Stay current on regulatory, compliance, and procedural changes affecting accounting functions.
  • Recommend accounting policy updates as appropriate.

Budget and Restricted Funds Management

  • Manage departmental budgets within the division in partnership with the Finance Director.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and provide periodic budget reports to unit leadership.
  • Advise departments on budget status, trends, and financial needs.
  • Assist with researching, forecasting, entering, and justifying operating budget requests.
  • Upload and manage budget information in university systems and ensure funds are appropriately balanced.
  • Provide data analysis and support for complex budget issues.

Team Leadership

  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate accounting staff.
  • Assign and prioritize workload to ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks.
  • Provide guidance on accounting methods and complex problem‑solving.
  • Cross-train in Finance team functional areas and provide coverage during high-volume periods or staff absences.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Collaborate with unit staff and maintain effective working relationships across the division, college, and university.
  • Serve as a liaison with Contracts & Grants and General Accounting.
  • Participate in college and university meetings to ensure understanding of and compliance with policies and regulations.

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of the Finance team and the Division of Enrollment Management.
Expected Salary:

$75,000 annually

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.

Preferred:
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills 
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and university regulations pertaining to accounting and fiscal management
  • Ability to prepare, present, coordinate, and monitor all federal, state, and university funding received by the Division
  • Ability to design and implement accounting systems as well as analyze and interpret data
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
  • Must have substantial expertise relevant to the use of computers and appropriate software 
  • Knowledge of fiscal accounting functions and processes
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to handle the pressures of a high-volume, multi-faceted job assignment where excellent customer service, attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness are critical
  • Experience supervising, training, coaching, and mentoring staff at various organizational levels
