Job Description:

Chemical Analysis & Testing

Conducts experiments on samples submitted to MSREC; assist graduate students and post-doctoral associates in the analysis of data and experiments under the supervision of the MSREC director.

Coordinate research findings and prepare detailed summaries for eventual submission of manuscripts for publication.

Prepares samples for various MS analyses, including sample extraction, enzyme digestion, derivatization and other sample preparation techniques as needed.

Research & Method Development

Develop new experimental methods.

Research information to make recommendations for review by the MSREC Director and implement new techniques once approved by the MSREC Director.

Laboratory Operations & Maintenance

Operation of mass spectrometers, and related auxiliary equipment (HPLC, speed vacuums, centrifuges, etc.).

Scheduling maintenance or repair, performing routine maintenance and repair as appropriate, and ensuring proper tuning and calibrating is performed according to specific instrument requirements.

Data Management & Reporting

Writing, keeping and creating any lab SOP’s, methods or protocols, and safety documents as required by EH&S. 

Maintaining sample log-in/log-out records including monthly billing of internal and external users for rendered services.

Compliance & Quality Control

Ensures all testing adheres to quality standards and maintains safety standards through laboratory audits.

Training & Supervision

Trains students in sample preparation and self-operated instruments.

Expected Salary:

$53,000 - $57,000

Required Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field; or a masters degree in chemistry or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelors degree in chemistry or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience.

Preferred:

PhD in Chemistry, or closely related field. Ability in working with analytical sample preparation methods, analytical equipment and data analyses for biological and molecular samples is required.  Prefer experience in wet laboratory procedures, sample preparation, solution preparation, biological sample handling techniques, and soft matter characterization. Ability to work independently in a multitask team-based environment with attention to detail, experience with Microsoft Office tools (Excel / Word / PowerPoint), and excellent written and verbal communications skills are required.
