| Job Description: |
The Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology is seeking a full time Biological Scientist. The Biological Scientist III position will reside in Dr. Weiner's laboratory which supports funded projects on investigating the molecular mechanisms that regulate normal and abnormal mechanisms of renal acid-base and electrolyte homeostasis. The incumbent will work under direct supervision of principal investigator and with other staff in the laboratory to perform experimental studies designed to facilitate the advancement of research projects in the group. The incumbent will also be expected to facilitate and assist in efforts involved in collaborative projects with other investigators both at the University of Florida and at outside institutions.
Essential Functions;
• Protein and mRNA localization and quantification using single cell/nucleus RNA-seq, real-time RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, and immunoblot analysis. • Perform electrolyte and other assays on urine and blood (essential function). • Perform tissue section studies (essential function). • Perform animal studies, including metabolic cage studies and tissue harvesting (essential function). • Interpret results of experiments being performed, and assist in preparation of results for publication and presentation • Perform statistical analysis on results and prepare data for publication, presentations, and for internal laboratory discussion (essential function). • Communicate with the principal investigator and other laboratory personnel regarding ongoing processes of the laboratory and the progress being made on such processes (essential function). • Develop new and improved laboratory processes. • Individual will be responsible for the preventative maintenance on laboratory as required and other duties as assigned. • Additional duties associated with the position include occasional lab maintenance, regulatory

$61,000 - $80,200 annually

| Required Qualifications: |
Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related field and seven years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in biology or a closely related field and five years of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field and two years of relevant experience.

| Preferred: |
• Experience in kidney-related research is preferred, but not an absolute, requirement. • Documented ability to work independently and be successful in biomedical research as documented by peer-reviewed publication. • Ability to work well with others.
