Job Description:

This position is located in the School of Teaching and Learning, an academic unit in the College of Education.  The academic assistant serves as the face of the unit's academic office and acts as a liaison between students, faculty, and other university units. The employee's main duties are academic in nature.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Front Desk Support: Serve as the first contact for all STL inquiries, directing visitors or callers to the appropriate office; securing hallways and restrooms connected to STL each morning and evening; scheduling requests for STL conference room space; supporting STL event set up and clean up. 
  • Certificate Student Academic Administration & Support: Primary contact for administration of all certificate-level student processes after admission and through graduation; confirming initial student codes are correct; collecting approved programs of study; monitoring degree audits; monitoring program progress; graduation checks. Collaboration and backup support for staff handling support for other STL degrees (PhD/EdD, Masters). 
  • Graduate Student Milestone Monitoring and Support: Managing all STL docusigns for milestone events; creating and distributing public invitations to doctoral dissertations and masters theses. 
  • Support for STL Academic Processes: Managing all textbook adoptions and uploading of syllabi for compliance; managing course evaluation set up; backup support for grade entry. Working with STL office manager, Graduate Coordinator, & ETC office to ensure academic information on the website is up to date. 
Expected Salary:

$18.00 - $20.00 hourly

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred:
  • AA/AS degree or Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience with student admission and graduate records.
  • Experience in institutes of higher education.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Ability to work in an academic environment with good interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills.
