The Manager of Communications and Marketing leads the strategy, development, execution and evaluation of integrated, multichannel communications and marketing initiatives that advance the College of Nursing’s academic programs, research, clinical initiatives and community impact. This role is responsible for shaping and stewarding the college’s brand identity across all internal and external platforms, including digital and social media, web, print and visual communications.
Working collaboratively with college leadership, faculty and administrative partners, the manager ensures clear, consistent and compelling messaging, high‑quality visual standards and effective storytelling that enhance the college’s visibility and reputation. The position provides creative leadership for graphic design and content development and offers strategic guidance on media relations, public relations and promotional campaigns in close coordination with UF Health Communications.
The manager uses data, research and performance metrics to inform goals, assess effectiveness and report outcomes to key stakeholders, while proactively identifying and communicating potential issues and opportunities. Reporting to the Executive Director of Operations and Strategic Initiatives, with a dotted‑line relationship to the UF Health Communications Director of Strategic Communications, this role supervises communications staff and student interns in support of the college’s strategic priorities.
Strategic Marketing & Communications Leadership
Helps develop and implement the College of Nursing’s integrated marketing and communication strategies to effectively promote the college, its academic programs, research, clinical practice and community engagement initiatives across key audiences.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Building collaborative working relationships with academic leaders, faculty, staff and affiliated health system or community partners to gather information and support shared projects and strategy.
• Leveraging compelling and unique communications tools to shape powerful storytelling.
• Working with the college webmaster and UF Health Communications digital teams to develop, design and maintain web content using the WordPress platform, ensuring alignment with UF and UF Health policies, brand design standards and accessibility requirements and ensuring analytics-based approaches reflect best practices and optimize SEO.
• Guiding social media strategy across platforms to enhance the reputation and visibility of the college and its missions; setting editorial calendars for social accounts; monitoring key metrics to gauge effectiveness of efforts and sharing reports, using data to identify and recommend opportunities for enhanced engagement.
• Gathering data and conducting research to inform strategies, establishing defined goals and developing metrics to track success, and adjusting processes or approach as needed.
• Interpreting, applying and complying with all university and UF Health communications, marketing, branding and media policies and standards to college marketing and communications activities.
Also responsible for:
• Planning and managing the marketing and public relations budget in collaboration with the Executive Director of Operations and Strategic Initiatives and marketing/communications leadership.
Content Development, Creative Direction & Brand Management
Responsible for the creation, design and distribution of internal and external communications across print, digital, web and social media platforms.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Developing concepts, drafting content, designing layouts and managing the full production process for signature publications (e.g., annual reports, magazines, impact summaries).
• Creating high quality promotional materials, flyers, brochures, posters, digital graphics, advertisements and multimedia assets in support of academic programs, events, research and clinical initiatives.
• Leading the College of Nursing communications team in writing, editing, producing and distributing multimedia content that informs internal and external audiences of the college’s collective accomplishments.
• Shaping the UF College of Nursing story using multimedia approaches in creative and compelling ways to achieve defined communications objectives.
• Working closely with UF Health Communications’ Creative Services team to coordinate photography, videography, infographics, graphic design and animation, outsourcing to freelancers to complete projects when appropriate.
• Maintaining and enforcing College of Nursing brand standards across all channels and ensuring consistency with university and UF Health branding guidelines.
• Serving as the subject matter expert for creative services, design standards, production processes and asset management.
• Maintaining a searchable archive of all design, marketing and communication assets.
Internship Program Management
Managing and supervising the College of Nursing’s Communications/Marketing/PR internship program.
Duties include:
• Recruiting, evaluating and selecting student interns (graduate and undergraduate).
• Assigning interns to projects aligned with their skill sets and college needs.
• Providing coaching, skill development and performance evaluations.
• Managing workflow for approximately two part time interns each semester.
Staff Supervision
Managing and supervising the Marketing and Communications team.
Duties include:
• Providing direction, guidance and oversight to ensure all communication and marketing strategies are executed effectively and with excellence.
• Aligning daily work with collegewide strategic goals and planned communication initiatives.
• Supporting professional development and performance management, inspiring and motivating staff while ensuring accountability for defined goals and objectives.
Meets regularly with College of Nursing and UF Health Communications leadership, including the Dean, the Executive Director of Operations and Strategic Initiatives and UF Health Communications leadership. Supports special projects, strategic initiatives and emerging needs aligned with the College of Nursing’s operations and leadership priorities and/or those of the university and/or UF Health.
