Are you a high-level Veterinary Technician who thrives in the heart of the action? The University of Florida’s Small Animal Hospital is looking for a Progressive Care Ward Supervisor who leads from the front.

Work Schedule:
Typically, Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00PM to include holidays. However, hours and days may be flexible and adjusted based on the business needs of the UF Veterinary Hospitals as well as ensuring the supervisor is able to be visible to all staff that span a 7-day week. This position is considered essential personnel.

Expected Salary:

$29/hr

Required qualifications

Associate’s degree and two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred:

The ideal candidate will have a "floor-first" leadership mentality. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:


Clinical Expertise: Mastery of advanced veterinary nursing skills, medical terminology, and anatomy, specifically within Progressive Care, ICU, or Emergency specialty services.
Technical Proficiency: Ability to operate hospital management software and administrative systems (e.g., Instinct, Cornerstone, PeopleSoft). Intermediate to advanced skills in the Microsoft Office Suite.
Personnel Management: Direct experience in staff mentorship, clinical training, conducting performance appraisals, and conflict resolution using "Just Culture" principles.


Critical Thinking: A proven track record of independent decision-making and the ability to apply complex problem-solving strategies in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Operational Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of the equipment, materials, and stringent infection control protocols (Isolation) required for a specialist ward.
Resource Management: Demonstrated ability to manage ward supplies and personnel hours effectively to ensure departmental efficiency without direct budget oversight.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Credentialed Veterinary Technician: Active licensure as a CVT, RVT, or LVT with at least four (4) years of relevant clinical veterinary experience. OR Currently Enrolled Student: Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program, having successfully completed at least 50% of the required coursework, plus at least four (4) years of relevant clinical veterinary experience OR High School Diploma (or equivalent): At least six (6) years of relevant clinical veterinary experience in a high-volume or specialty setting.

 

Leadership Experience: Two (2) or more years of experience in a formal leadership role (e.g., Supervisor, Team Lead, or Charge Nurse) within a high-volume veterinary hospital or academic setting OR Current holder of the Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) designation; OR Active enrollment in a CVPM certification program
