Classification Title:

OPS Lab Tech/Lab Manager

Classification Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field.

Job Description:

The Nemudryi lab studies the molecular arms race between bacteria and the viruses that infect them (bacteriophages). We investigate novel anti-phage immune systems using bacterial genetics, biochemistry, structural bioinformatics, and phage biology, with the goal of uncovering new biology at the host-phage interface and translating it into tools for science and medicine.

This is a hybrid role. Roughly 70% of time is spent at the bench, contributing to ongoing team projects alongside the PI and senior lab members, with opportunities to take ownership of your own work. The rest goes to keeping the lab running: ordering reagents and supplies, maintaining shared equipment and stocks, and supporting day-to-day operations.

Research Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to ongoing research projects
  • Perform molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, molecular cloning, and protein purification
  • Culture bacteria and bacteriophages, and perform phage infection and plaque assays
  • Analyze data and present findings at lab meetings
  • Maintain accurate records of your experiments

Lab Management Responsibilities:

  • Manage reagent, consumable, and equipment orders and track deliveries
  • Maintain inventories of common reagents, media, buffers, and supplies, and prepare standard lab stocks
  • Help onboard and train newer lab members as experience is gained
  • Keep shared spaces organized and ensure compliance with lab safety protocols
Expected Salary:

$16/hr to $18/hr, commensurate with education and experience

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field.

Preferred:
  • Prior undergraduate/graduate research experience in molecular biology, microbiology, or biochemistry
  • Hands-on experience with any of: bacterial/phage culture, recombinant protein expression and purification, molecular cloning, PCR, or biochemical assays
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment of at least one year (two years preferred)
Special Instructions to Applicants:

In order for your application to be considered, please submit:

  • A cover letter (one page max) explaining your interest in the position and why you are a good fit for this position
  • A CV/resume highlighting relevant coursework, research, and lab experience
  • Contact information for at least two professional references (research mentors preferred)
Health Assessment Required: No
