Staff Supervisor- Directly supervise and coordinate the work activities of the Controls shop staff and maintain the BAS systems in the buildings. Prepare work schedules, assign work, and oversee the work product of the staff. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Perform a variety of complicated tasks. Exercise a high degree of creativity and latitude. Direct and lead the work of others. Monitor staff work levels and review work performance. Compile operational or personnel records, such as time and production records, inventory data, repair or maintenance statistics, or test results. Counsel employees about work-related issues and assist employees to correct job-skill deficiencies Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as hires, promotions, transfers, discharges, or disciplinary measures.
Other Tasks- As a Controls Network Administrator troubleshoot building automation and control systems programming and communication issues. Perform integration of various controllers and communication protocols. Troubleshoot BAS server and application issues, maintain air handling units (AHU), pumps, chillers, boilers, and other HVAC and mechanical equipment scheduling for energy savings. Maintain remote alarm paging, review and commission new construction and renovation projects, maintain proper documentation for IP addresses, BACnet ID's, BBMD tables, and software licensing, maintain BAS user administration, maintain backup of BAS system databases. Write and maintain control-sequences and drawings for HVAC systems. Respond to BAS alarms and control work orders from the operations department.
BAS support- Examine BAS related objects, systems, or facilities and analyze information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs. Skillfully use field knowledge combined with the necessary tools, equipment, meters, and computers to install, operate, maintain, adjust, repair, calibrate, commission, troubleshoot, and/or program pneumatic and digital building automation and control system controllers with their associated components both connected to a network or "stand alone" for, but no! limited to, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); heating hot water; chilled water; steam; etc.; to maintain an energy efficient, safe, and comfortable environment in laboratories, offices, classrooms, etc. Responsible for the installation/replacement of controls equipment, e.g., actuators, controllers, variable speed drives and other controls equipment and provides field support to include inspection of equipment ensuring quality and productivity of all work performed. Formulate mathematical models of engineering problems. Provide cost estimates for projects. Monitor and assist with all upgrades to control network.
Oversee operations at remote research sites and schedules meetings, plans and organize presentations as necessary. Meet with vendors or suppliers to discuss products used in repair work. Operate UF vehicles.
Administration- initiates requisitions, coordinates flow of materials and maintains accurate time in relation to employees time worked. Requisition materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment, or replacement parts. Coordinate and develops and researches for upgrades and construction projects of the various building automation systems with the Assistant Director/Director that are related to Retro Commissioning projects. Participate in budget preparation and administration, coordinating purchasing and documentation and monitoring departmental expenditures. Assist other tradesmen in complex work projects or special assignments. Updates the Assistant Director/Director and with the progress of projects and day to day work as requested. Schedules meetings, plans and organizes presentations as necessary. Update System Superintendents, Controls Supervisors, and HVAC Maintenance Specialists with the progress of projects through e-mail.
Safety and Maintenance- Wear appropriate safety equipment and follow established safety practices and procedures and ensures the same for staff and contractors working in the building. Ensure proper care in safe use and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
Work On-Call as required.
Proof of State of Florida Class E Operators license required.
Health assessment and Criminal Background Check Required.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday- Friday, 6:45 to 3:45 pm 40 hours a week. Emergency work as needed; works On-Call

KNOWLEDGE OF: Good working knowledge of computerized Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Energy Management Controls, especially made by JCI, Allerton and Siemens. BacNet and other protocols are a plus. Ability to modify controls code to implement new control sequences/changes. General HVAC systems operational knowledge like AHUs, VAV boxes, chillers, boilers, pumps etc.
SKILLED IN: Troubleshooting problems in the BAS systems/devices, teaching and instructing the operation of the above equipment to staff, including computers and digitally controlled equipment involved in the process.
ABILITY TO: Supervise people; determine work priorities, assign work, and insure proper completion of work assignments and work request charges, apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures; communicate effectively, and prepare reports and correspondence; review/approve time cards.
