Job Description:
Sponsored by Florida Sea Grant, this part-time, temporary position runs from July to September 2026. It is intended to assist the UF/IFAS Extension Florida Sea Grant Agent in Hernando County with the distribution of Scallop Sorter devices during Hernando's Scalloping Season. This individual will be expected to work outdoors, weekend mornings between work dates (see exact dates below), for 6 hours per day during the Hernando Scallop Season, totaling 93 hours of work. The position requires a reliable mode of transportation and a willingness to drive to work locations. Work locations will include (but are not limited to) the Hernando Beach Boat Ramp and Bayport Park Boat Ramp. Duties will include talking with boaters, asking survey questions, distributing scallop sorters, and recording information. This is a fully in-person position. Work dates are subject to change with weather and regulatory impacts to the scallop season. The position requires long hours outdoors in the Florida sun, standing near boat ramps, and engaging with the public.

Expected Work dates (subject to change): July 1,3,4,10,11,12,18,25,26, August 1,2,15,16, and September 5,6,12
Key Responsibilities:
- Meet with and talk to boaters at Hernando Boat ramps during scalloping season
- Collect information from boaters and provide them with scallop sorters
- Compile responses and data and provide them to the project lead
- Communicate the purpose of the scallop sorters to community members
- Speak with boaters about scalloping best practices using the sorting tool
