Classification Minimum Requirements:

This position will be filled as either a Chemist II, III or IV dependent on candidate experience and
qualifications.

Chemist II: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field and three years of experience in the field or in a related area; or a master’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field and one year of experience in the field or in a related area; or Doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field.

Chemist III: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field and seven years of relevant experience in the field or in a related area; or master’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field and five years of experience in the field or in a related area; or Doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field and two years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Chemist IV: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field and thirteen years of experience in the field or in a related area; or master’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field and eleven years of experience in the field or in a related area; or Doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field and eight years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Job Description:

The College of Pharmacy Infectious Disease Pharmacokinetics Lab (IDPL) is seeking a Chemist to
perform all routine and non-routine tests leading to the successful completion of the drug assays.
Troubleshoot equipment problems, perform instrument maintenance and prepare data for reporting. To produce accurate test results for all clients.

1. Perform as directed routine LC MS MS assays.

2. In conjunction with supervisor, develops new assays.

3. Reports lab results via LIS or other computer systems. Recognizes unusual, discrepant or implausible results and works with supervisor to follow the designated procedure to validate the correct results.
 
4. Follows set guidelines to troubleshoot/correct assay problems or instrument malfunctions. Performs maintenance and works with or supervisor in troubleshooting QC or instrument.
 
5. Participates in CAP proficiency or defined in-house proficiency program.
 
6. Performs as directed, safety compliance and uses Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.
 
7. Takes an active role in Quality Assurance (QA) and Performance Improvement (PI), as directed: helps the supervisor in gathering data for QA/PI projects as directed. Performs quality control testing in all areas to ensure accurate test results.
 
8. Performs other related duties, including special projects as required or requested. Stock supplies and equipment to ensure uninterrupted service. Performs error correction, photocopy and data entry as required.

Preferred:

Ideal candidate (for a level II, III or IV) will possess:

  • Experience with LC MS MS strongly preferred.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Good command of the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Eligible to apply for Florida medical technician or medical technologist license.
