The Department of Occupational Therapy, College of Public Health and Health Professions at the University of Florida, invites applications for one full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month non-tenure track Research Assistant Scientist position. The department is seeking a dynamic individual with a history of extramural grant funding and experience in community based participatory research. Primary responsibilities include all aspects of research including proposal development and submission, managing existing and new grants, expertise in qualitative research methods, scientific dissemination including development of presentations and manuscripts, development of knowledge translation activities for the lay population, scientific report writing for granting agencies, and co-supervising graduate students. A small, secondary responsibility may include participating in service activities as assigned by the department chair.
The Department of Occupational Therapy is a national leader in occupational therapy education and research, ranked in the top five public universities in the USA according to the 2026 U.S. News and World Report rankings. The Department offers outstanding academic and training programs that include a Doctor of Occupational Therapy program, a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science program, a BHS-OTD accelerated program and a post-professional certificate in Driver Rehabilitation Therapy. The Department has active and federally funded research labs in productive aging, intellectual and developmental disabilities, sensory integration, rehabilitative and assistive technology, community mobility, and driving rehabilitation. UF SmartDriver™ Rehab offers driver rehabilitation services for clients in the greater Gainesville area and throughout north-central Florida. The Department also serves the occupational needs of the community through the student run, pro bono Occupational Therapy Equal Access Clinic.

The College of Public Health and Health Professions is part of the University’s Health Science Center. The UF Health Science Center is the country’s only academic health center with six health related colleges located on a single, contiguous campus. They include the colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Professions, and Veterinary Medicine.

Research doctorate in sociology, anthropology, health services research, or public health. Experience interfacing with children and caregivers in a research intensive environment. Professional proficiency in spoken and written Spanish.
