Classification Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a phlebotomy course; or a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience

Job Description: Triage: 
Receive and record all specimens, print out labels and/or paperwork, identify specimen containers, and
create packing lists to be delivered to appropriate lab and designated location. This also includes patient
check-in for specimen collection.
CP Accessions: 
Prepare clinical pathology laboratory specimens in EPIC for designated departments/locations prior to
laboratory analysis and testing. Unpack and route specimens by type to various areas. Prepares all
specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations such as the hematology
or urinalysis bench.
Processing:
Centrifugation and aliquoting of samples. Resolve and document problem specimens and/or orders. Ensure
specimens and requisitions are correctly labeled. Send out tests to corresponding labs. Knowledge of
common send out tests and the ability to navigate the test menu for various reference laboratories.
Recognize specimen rejections and complete the appropriate follow-up procedures. Answer/redirect phone
calls. Able to keep track of reagent and supply inventory. Empty Biohazard boxes/bins. Communicating
daily on communication log. Process add-on test requests from providers. Help client services with provider
requests. Perform CLIA-waived testing and enter results into EPIC.
Phlebotomy: 
Performs phlebotomies and provides patients with prepared written instructions for self-collect specimens.
Works in EPIC. Enters lab encounters for outside lab requests & athlete physicals, attaching lab results to the
EHR from reference labs and getting all final results together for athlete physicals to the University of Florida’s
United Athletic Association (UAA).

Expected Salary:

Starting salary is between $17.00 - $17.50

Required Qualifications:

Ability to perform phlebotomy on patients.
Ability to communicate effectively - verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationship with others. Ability to work in a potentially stressful environment. Ability to quickly learn
various aspects of Lab Operations. Knowledge of Medical terminology.

Preferred:

Communication skills which will allow the prospective employee to interact with UF physicians, client
physicians, and other health professionals in a professional manner. Ability to know where to obtain
information in order to carry out the responsibilities of the position in the absence of the laboratory
supervisor. Ability to communicate and give concise understanding of instructions. Knowledge of the
types of laboratory tests, patient preparation, and handling and storage of specimens. Ability to
understand and carry out written and verbal instructions
