Job Description:

Student Development, Supervision, & Risk Management:

  • Recruit, hire, schedule, train, supervise, mentor, and evaluate fitness program assistants, personal training instructors, massage therapists, and other student/OPS employees.
  • Supervise student staff on shift at multiple facilities, ensuring policies enforcement. Driving to different facilities will be required.
  • Conduct staff meetings and provide continual training for fitness staff.
  • Plan and facilitate regular staff meetings and training sessions for each assigned area including awareness and compliance with all University policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the development of program training manuals and materials including safety and risk management practices to meet national standards and University policy.
  • In coordination with unit area team and the Talent Management unit, create and implement a comprehensive student development program.
  • Communicate job responsibilities and expectations for student employees.


Program Management & Administration:

  • Teach, lead and implement a personal training course to new students, educate and guide current personal trainers and massage therapists, and Exercise is Medicine programming based on accredited curriculum.
  • Provide direction for equipment replacement, equipment purchasing, and long-range planning.  Assist in developing equipment specifications, purchase exercise equipment, collaborate with vendors during installation, and continually collaborate with maintenance staff to achieve maximal longevity of equipment and facility space.
  • Evaluate fitness programs, rules, and policies through participant evaluations and staff input.
  • Complete monthly report responsibilities and attend weekly fitness program meetings and monthly department meetings.
  • Prepare and analyze statistical reports, evaluations and participation surveys.
  • Enforce University and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other units within RecSports and on campus to develop new and relevant programs.
  • Promote programs by coordinating with marketing & outreach to advertise programs.


Financial, Administrative, & Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Work in tandem with the Associate Director and Assistant Director to develop the operational budgets for assigned programs.
  • Monitor budgets throughout the year and assist with quarterly reporting.
  • Maintain proper inventory records.
  • Serve as an active member on committees, work teams, and other global efforts within the Department of Recreational Sports and the Division of Student Life.
  • Prepare and manage bi-weekly payroll and wage schedules and reports.
  • Ensure Risk Management & Safety protocol are utilized appropriately within all assigned responsibilities.
  • Provide feedback to supervisor regarding the safety and/or condition of programs, equipment, and facilities. Conduct daily observations on use of said equipment and facilities. Immediately document and address all safety concerns
Expected Salary:

$44,000.00 – $50,000

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid driver’s license.

Preferred:

Master’s Degree; two years of experience in personnel management and fitness programming; understanding of fitness operations in a campus recreation setting; effective communication skills; ability to work with minimal supervision, to think laterally, to undertake initiatives, to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment and to supervise people.

Preferred Fitness Certifications: ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, or NASM, and First Aid & CPR/AED.
