The Opportunity
The Student Health Care Center (SHCC) at the University of Florida seeks a full-time Custodial Worker I to join our Environmental Services Team. As a Custodial Worker I, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the cleanliness and hygiene of various areas within the new SHCC facility on campus, supporting our mission to provide excellent healthcare services to the UF Student Body.
The key responsibilities of the position include the following:
• The primary duty of the Custodial Worker I is to maintain a clean, safe health care environment at the Student Health Care Center (SHCC). SHCC serves students across campus and has a high traffic footprint. This position follows proper cleaning and sanitation guidelines of all areas of SHCC to maintain cleanliness and safety. This position also assists in transportation of SHCC staff and faculty to meetings and trainings, as well as other tasks to support the mission of SHCC.
• The incumbent sweeps, mops, strips, and waxes floors, vacuums carpets and cleans walls, windows, furniture, and equipment in staff offices and patient health care areas. These areas include business offices, doctors' offices, examining rooms, clinics, patient waiting areas, clinical laboratories, and all other areas within the facility as directed. Maintains bathroom facilities in a clean and sanitary condition with adequate supplies. Patient areas must be cleaned with appropriate germicidal material to ensure a germ-free environment. Sweeps sidewalks, steps, and entryway to the Infirmary Building.
• Keeps the storeroom clean and orderly as part of janitorial duties. Also performs the following duties in the storeroom on an as-needed basis: 1) Lift heavy boxes in the storage room; 2) stock shelves.
• Assembles and moves furniture and equipment as directed. Assists with special projects as directed.
• Dispose of waste material; is aware of safety rules and regulations and reports safety hazards to immediate supervisor. Follows OSHA Guidelines and State regulations pertaining to trash, contaminated waste, and recyclable materials. Assists in the proper disposal of excess or surplus supplies, materials, and furniture.
• Replaces light bulbs; makes simple repairs to and maintains janitorial equipment. Reports any equipment that may require additional repairs to the Housekeeping Supervisor.
• Serves as standby driver and drives state vehicle as needed.
• Checks linen in and out.
• Performs related duties as required, some of which are unique to a hospital-type environment.
Typical Schedule:
- Daily from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.
- Hours and days will vary due to the needs of the Student Health Care Center.
- Monday through Friday (rotating weekend and evening shifts on an as-needed basis).
