The UF Health Cancer Institute is the 72nd NCI designated cancer center and the only one at a public university in the State of Florida. As a matrix cancer center, we span all of the University of Florida's 16 colleges, pulling together a world-class, multi-disciplinary membership of over 350 faculty and 150 staff to address the challenges of the cancer burden faced by the population we serve as we work together to find a cure.
As a Research Development Strategist at the UF Health Cancer Institute (UFHCI), you will be responsible for providing high-quality and timely scientific writing support to UFHCI members, faculty, staff, trainees, and other relevant groups.
In your new role you will be responsible for the following:
- Collaborate with investigators and research administration staff to develop, edit, proofread, and prepare complex grant proposals, progress reports, and other research documents, ensuring compliance with sponsor guidelines and submission requirements.
- Provide scientific writing and editorial support for manuscripts, publications, standard operating procedures, and research-related communications while maintaining consistency, accuracy, and adherence to journal and sponsor formatting standards.
- Maintain scientific productivity data by tracking publications, updating faculty biosketches, supporting research metrics reporting, and assisting with documentation required for institutional and national reporting.
- Partner with faculty and leadership to develop scientific presentations, posters, and other materials that effectively communicate research accomplishments and support Cancer Institute initiatives.
This is a professional-level scientific writing and research administration position, ideal for candidates with experience in scientific or medical writing, grant proposal development, research administration, or biomedical research support. | Required Qualifications: |
- Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience supporting research, scientific, academic, or healthcare-related projects through writing, editing, data analysis, or project coordination.
- Experience preparing, reviewing, or managing complex documents while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
- Excellent scientific, technical, and professional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the ability to work with data and document management systems.
Appropriate professional certification in professional writing, pre-award administration, or similar areas of practice (eg. through AMWA, RACC, etc.) is required at the earliest of 12 months from hire or eligibility.

| Preferred: |
- Experience with grant proposal development, scientific manuscript preparation, publication submission, and research reporting.
- Direct research experience or training, including familiarity with academic research methods, sponsor requirements, and the biomedical research environment.
- Experience analyzing scientific data, managing document versions, and supporting multidisciplinary research initiatives.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet demanding deadlines.
- Collaborative and resourceful, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with investigators, leadership, and cross-functional teams.
- Forward-thinking, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement, sound judgment, and exceptional customer service.
- Professional and discreet when handling confidential information and sensitive research materials.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, edit, and finalize complex scientific documents, proposals, and publications while ensuring compliance with sponsor and journal requirements.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret data and communicate findings effectively.
- Experience with reference management software, Adobe Creative Suite, graphics or publishing software, databases, or web-based research tools.
- Proven project management, meeting facilitation, and collaboration skills with the ability to drive projects to successful completion across multiple stakeholders.
