This is a 9 month tenure-accruing position that will be 60% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences) and 40% extension (Florida Cooperative Extension Service), available in the School of Forest Fisheries and Geomatics Sciences, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. Tenure will accrue in the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences (SFFGS). The faculty member will seek contract and grant funding actively to support their program.
Teaching duties will include designing and delivering undergraduate and graduate courses such as Cadastral Principles, Surveying and Mapping Practice, and Geodetic Surveying for Land Management. Instruction will combine classroom teaching with field components that use boundary‑surveying techniques, parcel datasets, and the legal aspects of land administration. In addition, the professor will mentor students, supervise capstone projects and graduate theses, and support career development for those pursuing surveying or land‑administration pathways. Ongoing contributions will include curriculum innovation, development of distance‑education modules, and interdisciplinary teaching across the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences
Extension duties will include creating and leading a statewide Extension program focused on cadastral systems, land tenure, and surveying geospatial infrastructure. This effort will involve delivering workshops, short courses, and hands‑on training to local government agencies and private‑sector stakeholders. The faculty will collaborate and support ongoing surveying workforce development efforts. The faculty will produce Extension publications, technical guides, and policy briefs, and provide technical expertise to initiatives such as map archiving and workforce‑development projects. Securing extramural funding to sustain and expand Extension activities will also be a core responsibility.
The faculty will actively participate in departmental governance, contribute to curriculum review and accreditation efforts, and engage with professional organizations such as the Florida Surveying and Mapping Society (FSMS) and the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG). Collaboration will extend across UF/IFAS units and with external partners to promote interdisciplinary initiatives and support statewide Extension programs.

The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences includes the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, the Florida Cooperative Extension Service, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Florida Sea Grant program, and encompasses 16 on-campus academic departments and schools, 12 Research and Educational Centers (REC) located throughout the state, 6 Research sites/demonstration units administered by RECs or academic departments, and Florida Cooperative Extension Service offices in all 67 counties (counties operate and maintain). The School of Natural Resources and Environment is an interdisciplinary unit housed in IFAS and managed by several colleges on campus. UF/IFAS employs nearly 4,500 people, which includes approximately 990 salaried faculty and 1,400 permanent support personnel located in Gainesville and throughout the state. IFAS, one of the nation’s largest agricultural and natural resources research and education organizations, is administered by a Vice President and four deans: the Dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the Dean for Extension and Director of the Florida Cooperative Extension Service, the Dean for Research and Director of the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, and the Dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine. UF/IFAS also engages in cooperative work with Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.
The School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences (SFFGS) has teaching, research, and Extension education programs in three broad areas: Geomatics; Forest Resources and Conservation; and Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. The SFFGS has 70 faculty members, 60 administrative and programmatic staff, 250 graduate students, and 350 undergraduate students. The School offers bachelor’s degrees in Geomatics, Forest Resources and Conservation, Natural Resource Conservation, and Marine Sciences; thesis and non-thesis master’s degrees in all focal areas, including a number of innovative distance education master’s programs; and Ph.D. degrees in all focal areas.
