Job Description:

CP Accessions/ Processing: 
Prepare Clinical Pathology laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory
analysis and testing. Unpacks specimens from branches or ports and routes specimens by type to various
staging areas. Prepares all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or
locations such as staging of specimens, centrifuge, separate serum, and blood smears. Resolves and
documents problem specimens.

Clinical Pathology Specimen Triage/Receiving: 
Receive and record all specimens into daily receipt log; this includes checking courier drop bins throughout
the day for samples. Pre-accession specimens, order tests, print out labels and attach to paperwork and
specimen container, print Test Order form – then deliver to appropriate lab and specimen to designated
location. Forwards a copy of report to appropriate in-house physician/lab. Monitor samples being sent to
outside facilities. Notify technologists and appropriate staff of samples that have critical turnaround times
(STAT samples).

AP Accessions:
Prepare Anatomic Pathology laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory
analysis and testing. Unpacks specimens and routes specimens by type to various staging areas. Prepares
all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations. Resolves and
documents problem specimens.

Lead and Customer Service: 
Works with clients to ensure that they receive high-quality service. Answers incoming phone calls in a
pleasant, professional manner. Understands all aspects of the telecommunication system and its
operation. The representative will access the laboratory database and communicate with clients regarding case
status, specimen handling requirements, fees, insurance, and other information. Accesses the information
systems for the purpose of researching, troubleshooting, and following up on specimen-related problems.
The representative must keep updated on testing procedures and specimen requirements. He/she must
work closely and amicably with laboratory and clerical personnel to resolve status problems, and maintain
appropriate documentation of all client service encounters. Assists in developing efficient workflows for
Client Services issues. Trains as needed for coverage and employee development. Trains new Client
Services Staff as needed. Acts as a technical lead in the absence of the supervisor. Coordinates the shift
Assigns tasks, oversees the workflow according to the direction of the team supervisor, and ensures work is
being completed in a timely manner. Performs any such duties needed to keep the accessioning and processing area running smoothly and performing the work in an accurate, organized, and timely manner. Coordinates special testing, such as athletic, molecular, QFT, and situations when specimens cannot be tested on site and must be sent out.
Monitors courier drop-offs and ensures runs/specimens are not missed. Monitor expected list to ensure
everything is received and communicated. Assists with oversight and daily processes for the Triage and Accessioning, and Processing sections. Identifies problems with clinical pathology samples and identifies the proper course of action. Monitors issues with clinical pathology samples and follows up on all outstanding issues. This position will be
responsible for troubleshooting and documenting any and all issues that come up in the day/evening
shift and reporting them directly to their supervisor. Fills out Performance Variation Reports (PVRs) when
appropriate. This position will be able to fill vital roles when other staff members are out (including AP triage, CP triage, CP processing, medical record creation). This position will be responsible for training employees on CP
receiving, accessioning, and problem tracking, and resolution.

Expected Salary:

Salary is between $18.00 - $18.50 per hour

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma and two years of appropriate office experience. Appropriate college coursework or
vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred:
  • EPIC or other medical database. Previous registration experience. Communication skills that will allow the prospective employee to interact with UF physicians, client physicians, and other health professionals in a professional manner. Ability to work in a potentially stressful environment.
  • Ability to quickly learn various aspects of Lab Operations. Knowledge of Medical terminology.
