Job Description:

Supervise and manage the activities and performance of clinical laboratory testing of human biological samples for diagnostic purposes using various methodologies. Core lab and Endocrine lab testing includes, but is not limited to, operation of state-of-the-art automated chemistry, special chemistry, immunoassay, hematology, coagulation, electrophoresis,QFT, ELISA, AIA, HPLC.   Handle administrative tasks, including working with Human Resources staff & the Director of Operations to recruit, interview, select, and hire employees.  Complete performance appraisals, and coach and counsel employees as needed. Responsible for preparing schedules and approving time, coordinating lunches and breaks to ensure the area has coverage at all times when the supervisor is not present in the area, and reporting any conflicts or issues directly to their supervisor. Plans and allocates resources to effectively staff and accomplish the work to meet department productivity and quality goals. 

Actively participate in the interfacing of automated instrumentation with the laboratory information system (LIS); involved in LIS-associated tasks such as test builds and procedure catalog maintenance. Participate in laboratory meetings and contribute to policy development and strategic planning.

Participate in the overall maintenance of the laboratory, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to laboratory protocol. Manage inventory and procurement of laboratory supplies, ensuring the availability of necessary resources for efficient lab operations.

Responsible for all routine documentation associated with the performance of laboratory testing. Oversee quality controls and quality assurance programs to maintain laboratory compliance with all regulatory agencies.

Participate, with other technologists, in development of tests and in expansion of test menu as defined by the laboratory director. Train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory staff, fostering a collaborative and professional work environment.

Implement and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPS). Recommend updates and make changes to laboratory procedure manuals. Responsible for keeping the UFHPL Core Lab and Endocrine in a continual state of readiness per CAP, AHCA, and CLIA requirements. Conduct performance appraisals and competency assessments for staff.

Expected Salary:

Salary range is $75,000 - $85,000, commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications:

Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in one of the specialty areas to which the position is allocated and four years of appropriate experience.

Preferred:
  • Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, and Serology under Chapter 483, Florida Statutes.
  • Prior Clinical Laboratory experience in the areas of Clinical Chemistry, Immunology, Hematology, and Coagulation.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and execute laboratory testing.
  • Ability to use problem-solving techniques in the laboratory.
  • Ability to communicate with other technologists and supervisors.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for clinical testing.
